Cherry Cobbler Cookies

Teresa Ambra

Do you want a heavenly cookie? Cherry Cobbler Cookies. Yes, these delicious cookies are just about irresistible. These cookies include tart cherry Greek yogurt along with fresh cherries in the batter. They cooked up big and beautiful and the taste was awesome.

Several years ago I made a batch of Peach Cobbler Cookies. Those turned out so well, I thought I’d try my hand at a cherry version, too. Yes, a hundred times, YES! These cookies had great texture and taste. I baked mine about 22 minutes and they were still pretty soft. If you want a crunchier cookie, you may want to bake them longer. Quite frankly, I thought they were perfect.

At the end of June I received a large 20-pound box of fresh cherries from the Northwest Cherry Growers in Washington State. They provided free cherries and asked me to blog about it. (I received no other compensation). The cherries were definitely some of the largest, plumpest, juiciest, most delicious cherries we have ever seen or eaten. We loved them. I made ten different desserts with all those cherries. Everyone one of them turned out fantastic.

If you’re looking for a delightful way to use fresh cherries in a recipe, give these Cherry Cobbler Cookies a try. I used a one-quarter cup scoop so my cookies were on the larger side. Believe me, one or two of them with coffee, tea or milk will have you in your happy place. 🙂 Enjoy.

Add UNBLEACHED all-purpose flour. Bleached flour toughens baked goods. Pit and dice cherries. Pat dry with a paper towel before adding to mixture.

  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 8 oz. container Tart Cherry Greek Yogurt (see note below)
  • 1 1/2 cups cherries pitted and diced
  • 8 tbsp. unsalted butter melted (1 stick)
  • 1 tbsp. vanilla extract
  • 1 tsp. almond extract
  • 1 tsp. baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp. sea salt

Instructions

  • Stir Greek yogurt thoroughly.
  • Melt butter and combine with Greek yogurt in a large mixing bowl.
  • Add sugar, vanilla, almond extract, baking soda and salt and whisk until well combined.
  • Add flour and cherries and stir with a wooden spoon to combine.

Notes

NOTE:  I used a ¼ cup cookie scoop which is a lot of dough. If making regular sized cookies, this recipe will make between 3-4 dozen and you need to cut the cooking time down by half!

NOTE: make sure you use a full 8-oz. container of Greek yogurt. Most containers are 5.3-oz. these days. (I used Noosa because it contains a full 8-ounces).

NOTE: My cookies were so large they took about 22 minutes to bake completely.

NOTE: This recipe uses NO eggs.
