Homemade Ranch Dressing Mix
Homemade Ranch Dressing Mix is amazing. Let me be honest with you. I’ve never been a big fan of Ranch Dressing. I know that sounds sacrilegious, but it’s true. I’ve always preferred sweeter salad dressings. The only time I’ve ever used Ranch Dressing on salads is when there were NO OTHER OPTIONS. No kidding. No, Ranch Dressing has never been my preferred choice.

However, I wanted to make a Cornbread Salad recipe a few weeks ago for a party and Ranch Dressing was part of the recipe. So I decided to see if I could make a healthier version so I could eat the salad. Yes, by nature “cornbread” is not all that healthy. Mine was loaded with bacon, cheese and green chilies, but overall it was a clean recipe and bacon is available these days without sugar or nitrates.
I found a from-scratch recipe for the dressing mix without all the preservatives, sugar and other ingredients the regular packaged or bottled Ranch dressings/mixes have. I chose to use Just Mayo instead of other brands of mayonnaise because it has healthier and less harmful ingredients than most. (Hint: I buy it at Wal-Mart!) I can’t tell you how pleasantly surprised I was with this recipe.
No, that’s not true. I was MORE than pleasantly surprised. I was ecstatic. Me, eating Ranch dressing! Who would have thought it??? I love the idea that Homemade Ranch Dressing Mix makes up a lot and you only need to add a couple of tablespoons for each batch of dressing. That way you can make it up fresh as you go.
I only made what was necessary for the Cornbread Salad and stored the rest in my pantry. Not only did the Cornbread salad go over wonderfully, I had several people come up to me and ask me about the dressing. They loved it and so did I. That’s an amazing feat in and of itself. 🙂
If you’re looking for a healthy alternative to store-bought Ranch dressing mixes, Homemade Ranch Dressing Mix is superb. If you’ve run out of Ranch dressing to serve for dinner and can’t run out to the store, you may have all the ingredients on hand to make this dressing from scratch. Especially if you keep the buttermilk baking mix in the refrigerator or freezer and then use when necessary. I loved this dressing and have to admit it’s made a believer out of me. Something I never thought possible! 🙂
Homemade Ranch Dressing Mix is a quick and easy way to prepare your favorite salad dressing for dinner!
You can store this mix in your pantry or freezer for later use.

I like Ranch Dressing a lot so I know I would really like this, Teresa! I have been wanting to try making Ranch Dressing from scratch for a long time. One of the things I am concerned about, though, is that most of the recipes I’ve seen contain dill. I know I could leave it out, but I was wondering if the recipe tastes strongly of dill. I don’t know why, because I like pickles, but I don’t care for dill as a spice. Just wondering what your opinion on that was. I know sometimes with spices, when mixed with all of the other ingredients, the taste of each spice individually isn’t quite as overpowering. With mayo and sour cream as its base, it must be so creamy and way better than store bought!

Hi Shari. You can always make it leaving out the dill. Then add in as much as you feel you can tolerate. I think the dill helps the overall taste, but I never found it overpowering by any stretch. Appreciate your feedback.
