Heath Bars with Buttercream Frosting

Teresa Ambra

Oh my word, these delectable blondies are nothing short of divine! Truly, Heath Bars with Buttercream Frosting will knock your socks off! First, you start with a heavenly chocolate chip cookie dough, but instead of chocolate chips you use chopped Heath Candy Bars. Then the blondies are iced with a luscious vanilla buttercream frosting and sprinkled with MORE Heath Candy Bars. Oh my. I can eat my weight in these brownies (but that would not be a very pretty sight!)

About once or twice a month I go on a baking binge where I bake goodies that I store in containers in the freezer. I specifically make them so my husband can take them when he visits with friends. Everyone loves homemade cookies and brownies and I am only too happy to supply them!

I baked these scrumptious blondies back in June. But it wasn’t until a week or two ago that John took them with him on a visit to some trustees in Mississippi. We are in Colorado Springs for his summer trustee meeting this week and met up with those trustees. They told me how much they enjoyed them (and even signed up for my blog which was a great encouragement to me). They were eagerly awaiting the posting of this recipe! So here it is. 🙂

Heath Bars with Buttercream Frosting are perfect for Christmas holidays, summer holiday fun, backyard barbecues, potlucks and family reunions. Quite frankly, I don’t think there’s any time when these jewels wouldn’t be the perfect dessert for any family function. After one bite, I believe you’ll be convinced too.

I seen this recipe and was so excited, until I found out that heath bars have almond. Is there a different candy bar that you think would work with this recipe? I was so excited but then bummed. I am severely allergic to almond. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!!

Hi Brandy. Check the ingredients on the Heath English Toffee Bits. Otherwise, I’ve made this recipe with Snickers Bars. I would try any kind of candy bar. I bet almost any would work fantastic!

When you freeze these bars, do you put the frosting on after they have thawed?

      Joanne, Teresa’s husband John here…

We typically frost bars and cookies before freezing although there’s no reason you couldn’t freeze them without the frosting, then thaw and frost later. It’s just lots easier to do it all at the same time while you have all the supplies out. The frosting freezes just fine. Generally, we do all the baking, frost after the bars or cookies cool down, let the bars set so that the frosting gets firm (sometimes chill or freeze) then cut into squares. We then put the squares into storage containers with wax paper between the (usually) two layers. If you are traveling or taking these to someone, keep them frozen until you are ready to leave and they will thaw on your way. I even take frozen containers of cookies or bars with me on flights regularly without any problems. Hope that helps. Let Teresa know if you have additional questions. Thanks for visiting!
