Glazed Orange Donuts
Are you ready for a spectacular new donut recipe? Glazed Orange Donuts are everything you want in a donut. Especially if you love oranges. These donuts have orange juice and orange zest in the donut as well as in the icing. They are absolutely mouthwatering. And as I’ve stated before, donuts are my favorite comfort food of choice. I could live on them.

Back in early December I got on a donut baking binge. I wasn’t able to do our full Christmas Cookie Extravaganza because we had a wedding and lots of company in November/December. I really wasn’t in the mood for making cookies after everyone left. But I really did want to try out my new donut pans and bake donuts.
I made six different kinds for John’s office. Blueberry, Pumpkin, Lemon Poppyseed, Orange, Cherry and Raspberry. I’ve since made the raspberry again and a slightly different version of Blueberry. I’ve also made Blackberry, Chocolate and Buttermilk. Oh, my. John got “chewed out” by someone in his office for not letting him know I’d made donuts again. 🙁 So now he has to let people know my baked goods are available before they all get eaten up too fast!
While these donuts would be great for a holiday breakfast, oranges can be found almost year round these days. If you can’t find oranges you can always use grated orange peel from the spice section, if need be. I personally prefer freshly grated orange peel for its flavor and texture. I tried not to overwhelm the donuts with too much orange flavor, but you’re going to be able to taste it. Especially if you put grated orange peel on top of the icing.
I loved the donuts that way. But you may want to put smaller or larger amounts on top of the glaze for different palates. In fact, you may prefer more juice and zest in the recipe. That’s okay too. 🙂
Don’t let the long ingredient list freak you out. Basically, you mix the dry ingredients. Then you mix the liquid ingredients. After that, you combine the ingredients. Finally, you pipe the mixture into donut cavities and bake. It’s not as hard as it sounds. The end result is some of the most drool-worthy donuts you’ll ever taste. Truly, don’t be scared. Just give ’em a try.
Give your family a needed break from healthy eating by enjoying these jewels for a weekend breakfast. You can also bake them the night before. They still taste great even a day or two later (if they last that long). If you need some comfort food in your diet, give Glazed Orange Donuts a try. And eat an extra one for me while you’re at it. 🙂
Glazed Orange Donuts are so delectable.
You’ll be drooling over every bite of these luscious donuts.
I could have eaten my weight in these donuts.
Glazed Orange Donuts are the perfect comfort food for weekend breakfasts. Especially on dreary days when you want to brighten up your day!
Here’s what I did.
I used these ingredients for the donuts, but I did not use the vanilla.
First, combine the dry ingredients. Place UNBLEACHED all-purpose flour in a mixing bowl. (Bleached flour toughens baked goods). Add sugar, salt, baking soda and baking powder.
Stir ingredients thoroughly to combine. Set aside.
In another mixing bowl, combine eggs, sour cream and milk.
Whisk ingredients until smooth.
Add butter and oil.
Add orange juice and orange zest.
Whisk liquid ingredients to combine.
Add liquid ingredients to dry ingredients.
Stir with a wooden spoon until just combined.
Spoon ingredients into a zip-lock bag and cut off one of the corners.
Spray donut cavities with cooking spray. Pipe donut mixture into donut cavities. Bake at 425 for 10 minutes. Cool 5 minutes in pan before removing donuts to a cooling rack.
I used these ingredients for the icing.
Whisk powdered sugar, milk and orange juice until combined.
Place donuts top-side-down into glaze.
Place on cooling rack. Immediately sprinkle each donut with orange zest before glazing the next donut.
Serve Glazed Orange Donuts for your next company breakfast.
If you make a few batches of these donuts for your office staff, they’ll rave over them!
Glazed Orange Donuts will cure any sweet tooth craving.

Now I just have to get myself a donut pan. So I can make these donuts myself.

Hi, Sandy. I found my donut pans around Christmas time. I think they sell a lot of them at that time of year. I got them at a local H-E-B store (Texas grocery chain) and at Jo-Anns Fabric Shop. I would check out Bed, Bath and Beyond or Amazon. I’m sure you can locate some that way. I purchased several of the 20-cavity pans and just love them. When I make donuts, I usually make a slew of them at once, so having several pans really works well for me. Hope you are able to locate some.

Oh my. I love me orange glazed anything. Can’t wait to try these. Plus left over glaze that I can add to anything–or just eat. No, I wouldn’t do that. Or would I? haha
