Many of you know I’ve made about 20 cake mix recipes with 4 to 6 ingredients. I made six of them for our Christmas Cookie Extravaganza baskets last year. Why do I make them? They are just too easy. And they taste great. Many of the recipes start with a flavored cake mix and add white chocolate chips. A few used regular chocolate chips rather than white chocolate. Now I have a few of them with M&Ms instead of the chips.
I can’t tell you how many people have told me how much they’ve loved these simple and easy cookies. My husband and I hear it over and over again. When we tell them the recipe has only 4 or 5 ingredients, they look at us incredulously. They can hardly believe it.
I hope these cookies will make believers out of you. The Betty Crocker cake mix recipes usually come out perfect every time. I think that’s because there is pudding in the batter. I’ve had to fiddle a little with the texture using the Duncan Hines cake mixes. In this one, I had to add extra flour to get it to the correct consistency. I probably could have cut back the oil in half and made it that way (without extra flour) too.
I will say that the size of your “large eggs” makes a difference. We bought dozens and dozens of eggs last fall and winter to make cake mix cookies. (I made a couple thousand of these!) Without exception, every carton of eggs contained the largest “large eggs” I’ve ever seen. Most of mine looked like extra large or even jumbo eggs. That makes a big difference in the consistency of cake mix cookies. It adds a lot of liquid, which means the texture will be off unless you reduce the oil. For all of my Christmas baking, I cut the oil down in every recipe to adjust for the size of the egg. (That was across the board, no matter what brand of cake mix I used).
I actually baked these cookies last October because John wanted to give them away as gifts. We got really high reviews from all those who were fortunate enough to get a container of them. If you love M&Ms, you’ll love these cookies. Please take special note of my pictures so you can see the difference in the texture initially, and later with added flour. That way you can see what your cookie dough should look like and you won’t end up with a failed recipe. (So the cookie doesn’t run flat on the pan and not hold its shape).
M&M Cake Mix Cookies are really mind boggling. If you want to give your family a special treat for Valentine’s Day, make up a batch of these delectable goodies soon.
M&M Cake Mix Cookies are so delectable.
Sit down with a glass of milk and enjoy a stack of these delicious jewels. 🙂
M&M Cake Mix Cookies are terrific for tailgating parties and potlucks.
Here’s what I did.
I used these ingredients, plus flour.
Place Cake Mix into a mixing bowl. Add eggs and oil.
Stir ingredients to combine. (I could tell that this dough was way too gooey).
Add M&Ms.
Stir again to combine. I knew this texture would never hold it’s shape because it was too moist. So I decided to add flour.
Add UNBLEACHED all-purpose flour. (Bleached flour toughens baked goods).
Stir in flour. You can see the dough is thicker and will be more manageable.
Spray cookie sheets with cooking spray. Roll cookie dough into balls and place on prepared baking sheets. (I had to keep my hands moist while rolling the dough).
Bake at 350 for 13-15 minutes or until done. Rotate the cookie sheets on racks every six minutes while baking. My cookies took between 18-20 minutes to bake completely.
M&M Cake Mix Cookies turned out fantastic.
These cookies are fabulous for holiday baking.
If you need an M&M fix, this is the dessert for you!

Teresa, I see your recipe heading (prep time, cook time, servings, etc.) and then your recipe notes, but not an actual recipe. Did it get lost or do we not need any additional information, such as a measurement for the additional flour?
Thanks.

Hi, Mary. I am so sorry. I have a few of these recipes I drafted months ago and there was a change in the Recipe plug in so they failed to show the actual recipe. I’ve corrected it now and the recipe is there. Sorry it took so long to respond. We are on vacation and I just saw this. Thanks for notifying me and for your patience. 🙂
