Cabbage Kielbasa Skillet
Gluten Free Living – 2024
I must have made ten or twelve of these kielbasa skillet recipes with either cabbage or sauerkraut, back in the spring. This delightful recipe was one of my top two or three favorites. I LOVED all the flavors of this delicious skillet dinner. This one includes several colors of bell pepper, red onions, cabbage in the form of a coleslaw mix and a healthy smoked kielbasa without all the chemicals, nitrates and other bad ingredients that usually appear in smoked sausage.

As I stated above, this recipe was so good it turned out to be one of my favorites. It’s also one of the few kielbasa skillet recipes without apples, sauerkraut or caraway seeds in the recipe. It uses fresh cabbage instead of sauerkraut, and it’s not overly seasoned either. Garlic powder and black pepper are really the only seasonings used.
This easy skillet dinner is ready to eat in less than 30 minutes–and that includes all the chopping! Sausage with sauerkraut and apples is probably one of my favorite dishes. If you haven’t grown up on sauerkraut, you’re really missing out. I made at least one or two recipes weekly for at least two months! Some of the recipes are similar and others completely different, but I sure enjoyed all of the ways I learned to use kielbasa and cabbage or sauerkraut this past spring.
I stopped in at Sprouts and several other places to find the healthiest kielbasa and smoked sausage available. Some of the packs I got were made with chicken, others with beef or turkey. The rest were made with pork. I did my best to find kielbasa without all the harmful chemicals. None of the main distributors offered anything healthy, so I had to find kielbasa from smaller companies that were trying to make their product as healthy as possible. Overall, I was really pleased with the taste and texture of all the different kielbasa I used in recipes in February through April and plan to start remaking them again soon. 🙂

Serve from the skillet, if desired.
