Honey Roasted Chicken is a super easy 5-ingredient recipe for the grill. It’s also healthy and gluten free. This simple recipe includes a sauce that’s basted over the chicken while cooking. That basic sauce includes olive oil, orange juice, honey and paprika. Simple. Easy, Delicious.

In early May of 2024, I whipped up two very easy chicken recipes for the grill. Both used chicken leg quarters. In this recipe I chose to skin the meat, but in the Herbed Chicken Quarters I left the skin on. I served a delightful Mandarin Cashew Tossed Salad with both and enjoyed the meat reheated throughout the week for lunches.

This easy recipe can be ready to go on the grill in 5 minutes! Then cook the chicken until the juices run clear–about 30-60 minutes depending on how hot you have the grill. We prefer cooking over a lower heat so the meat cooks on the inside and is not burned out on the outside but raw on the inside!

As you look forward to grilling out with friends during the spring, summer or fall, this is such an easy way to enjoy chicken. Here in Texas, we grill pretty much year round (even when it’s only 25 degrees outside!) We usually grill several vegetables and fruit at the same time, so we reheat the meat, vegetables and fruit for lunches throughout the week. It makes life so much simpler and easier. 🙂

Pour olive oil into a small bowl. Add orange juice and honey.

Place on low to medium grill and cover with lid.

Turn every 15 minutes, basting with sauce each time, until chicken juices run clear and chicken is cooked completely (between 30-60 minutes depending on how high the heat).

Equipment

  • 1 gas grill or electric or charcoal grill
  • 1 small bowl
  • 1 whisk
  • measuring spoons
  • 1 basting brush

Ingredients
  

  • 3 lbs. skinless chicken leg quarters
  • 3 tbsp. olive oil
  • 2 tbsp. honey
  • 2 tbsp. orange juice
  • 1 1/4 tsp. paprika

Instructions
 

  • In a small bowl, whisk olive oil, orange juice, honey and paprika until thoroughly combined.  
  • Arrange chicken pieces on a large platter.
  • Brush chicken pieces generously with honey mixture.
  • Grill chicken over low to medium heat turning chicken every 10-15 minutes and basting with honey mixture each time.
  • Grill about 30-60 minutes (depending on the heat of the gill), until juices run clear.
  • Internal temperature should reach 165º. 
  • Remove to clean serving platter to serve.

Notes

NOTE: To cook in oven: Preheat oven to 425º. Place basted chicken pieces in baking dish and bake 30-45 minutes until done and juices run clear. Turn chicken every 10-15 minutes, basting with sauce each time.
