The wonderful thing about Strawberry Twinkie Dessert is it only includes three–yes, your heard that right–three ingredients. Hostess Twinkies, frozen sugared strawberries, and Cool Whip or whipped topping. It takes me about 10 minutes to prepare it and it’s ready to serve immediately, although you can refrigerate it a few hours before serving, if you desire.
We love this festive no-bake dessert. I think you will find it’s the best substitute for Strawberry Shortcake you’ll ever find anywhere. Really!
I got this fabulous recipe from Paula Moresco, when we worked together in the College of Adult Education at Dallas Baptist University. I was looking for an easy recipe and she suggested I try this one. Paula called this recipe Strawberry Shortcake Dessert, but I’ve always referred to it as Strawberry Twinkie Dessert to more aptly describe what’s in the dessert.
I’m pretty sure the recipe did not originate with Paula, and I’m not sure who created it. I share this recipe with you as one of our favorites.
When I first posted this recipe in early July 2012, I only had my blog up and going for about two weeks. I knew nothing about taking pictures or food presentation. It was all I could do to figure out how to work the technical side of blogging!
I recently remade this amazing dessert for a houseful of company on Memorial Day weekend, 2014. Everyone who ate this spectacular dessert loved it! It’s really hard not to salivate over something made with Twinkies! I updated the pictures so you could get a better appreciation for just how sensational this dessert really is. I hope you give Strawberry Twinkie Dessert a try for your next summer holiday. It’s yummy good. 🙂
Strawberry Twinkie Dessert is a fabulous 3-ingredient recipe to die for!
This lovely dessert is great for holiday celebrations like Fourth of July, Memorial Day, Veterans Day, Labor Day or any other holiday.
This picture shows the contents of Strawberry Twinkie Dessert. Hostess Twinkies on the bottom, strawberries in the middle, whipped topping on top, and garnished with a few extra strawberries, if desired.
Here’s what I did.
You will need these three ingredients: 1 box of Hostess Twinkies, 24-oz. carton frozen strawberries in sugar, and a 16-oz. container of Cool Whip or other whipped topping.
Slice up nine of the 10 Hostess Twinkies in half horizontally. Place the Twinkies cream-side-up in 9×13″ baking dish. You will have to squeeze them together into the dish.
Spoon thawed strawberries onto Twinkies.
Spread the carton of whipped topping over top the strawberries. Garnish with additional fresh strawberries, if desired. It really doesn’t get any easier than this!
It’s really best to eat this dessert within a couple of hours of when you prepared it. An hour of refrigeration after you make it is plenty.
The strawberries permeate into the texture of the Twinkies and this dessert just rocks!
This dessert needs to be eaten up within a day because the syrup from the strawberries will cause the Twinkies to get too mushy otherwise.
Here’s the recipe.

Yummy! No one turns down an opportunity to have a bite of Strawberry Twinkie Dessert!
Strawberry Twinkie dessert is definitely worthy of being a company dessert and a great substitute for Strawberry Shortcake!
If you enjoy strawberries, you’ll love this easy dessert. You can make it the day you plan to serve it. Just refrigerate it for a couple of hours.
This is the day after I made the dessert. You can see the juice from the strawberries sinks into the Twinkies the longer it sits. It was still delicious, but so much better the day you make it.
