Cracked Sugar Cookies
Cracked Sugar Cookies are awesome. Several years ago I was at my daughter-in-law’s when she made this wonderful sugar cookie recipe. I was hooked at once. These amazing cookies are melt-in-your-mouth good. Seriously. They just about dissolve in your mouth when you eat them.

They are so quick and easy to make too. You can have this recipe ready to bake in about 5 minutes and have 2 1/2 to 3 dozen of these jewels ready to eat hot out of the oven in 15 minutes total! No kidding!
We made these cookies the other day for Valentine’s Day with my three-year-old granddaughter, Eliana. She helped pour in the ingredients and was a great taste tester for us! She shows great promise to be a fabulous cook by the time she’s 10 or 12 years old.
I wish my mom would have allowed me in the kitchen at that age. For those of you who aren’t the greatest cooks or bakers, or if you have young children you want to teach to cook, consider this no-fail recipe. The only difficult part is separating the egg yolks and if mom or dad can do that part the rest is extremely easy.
I made Candice’s Cracked Sugar Cookies for our Christmas Cookie Extravaganza about 3 years ago but made them as sandwiches with my famous icing in the middle. They were SOOOOOO rich. We actually frosted these cookies, too, but because they are super sweet already and we normally make them without icing I’m going to post with and without icing.
Candice found this recipe at allrecipes.com several years ago. We are certainly grateful for Pam posting these fantastic cookies there so others could sample these delightful treats. This incredibly easy sugar cookie recipe has got to be one you add to your collection. Cracked Sugar Cookies are so scrumptious you will be talking about them for days!
We love these amazing cookies–plain or frosted–but I warn you in advance, they are addictive and you will find one batch of Cracked Sugar Cookies is rarely enough! You will want another and another and another and another! If you want quick and easy, if you want economical, if you want mouthwatering good, if you want a cookie that turns out wonderfully every time you make it you need to try Candice’s marvelous Cracked Sugar Cookies. You won’t be sorry.
When I initially posted this recipe in February 2013 it was the week I purchased my new computer and new Canon camera. It would be about 3 months before I had some lessons in how to use the camera and actually begun to use it. So I’ve been going back through all my old blog recipes from 2012-2013 and remaking the recipes so I could reshoot the pictures and get some that were more appealing than the originals.
I recently remade this recipe (May 2015) for some friends for dinner when she came down with a bad back. I liked including this dessert because it is just so easy, and everyone always loves it.
Let me just add that you must separate the eggs and only use the yolks in the recipe or you will change the whole consistency of the cookies. Gratefully, they turn out perfectly by following the directions. Also, this is one of the few cookie recipes I use where you can actually use the mixer for every step and the cookies don’t get tough. Enjoy.

We love these fantastic Cracked Sugar Cookies.

Cracked Sugar Cookies have the most wonderful texture. These cookies are so easy to whip up. You can have cookies ready to eat in less than 30 minutes!

Make a platter of these goodies for your next party and they will be snatched up in no time.
Here’s what I did.

I used these ingredients.

Soften butter. Add sugar.

Cream butter and sugar in an electric mixer for a few minutes.

Separate the eggs. This recipe only calls for yolks. You can use the whites for meringue or egg white omelets if desired, or discard. Add egg yolks add vanilla.

Cream mixture together again.

Add UNBLEACHED all-purpose flour, baking soda and cream of tartar. Mix together with mixer. This is the only recipe I use where I actually add this step with the mixer. Usually that toughens the cookie, but it works with this mixture.

Spray cookie sheets with cooking spray. Roll cookie dough into balls.

Bake about 11-12 minutes at 350. I actually took the cookies out of the oven when they were still rising. After a few minutes they sink into the cookies like this. My oven is slower and takes slightly longer. Cool on racks. Frost if desired.

Cracked Sugar Cookies melt in your mouth. These cookies are fabulous plain but if you need an extra kick you can frost and decorate them with icing too.

Cracked Sugar Cookies are so easy to make and economical too. We love this delicious recipe and believe you will too. The texture of these cookies is excellent even though they have so much sugar. They hold their shape and don’t flatten out.
Here’s the recipe.
