Apple Crisp
Apple Crisp is a luscious breakfast or dessert recipe that is amazing. What? Breakfast, you say?? Seriously? Yes, we love this Apple Crisp recipe for breakfast. Of course, you can serve it for a dinner dessert, too, but this is a great side for any kind of country breakfast.

It’s filled with lots of apples and cinnamon and also has a terrific oatmeal topping. It’s wonderful served right out of the oven with sausage and eggs, hash brown potatoes and biscuits. Yes, it’s quite heavenly. Your family will be sold on this delicious item included in their special occasion breakfasts from now on!
Years ago in the early 2000s when we were teaching a 30s and 40s Sunday school class one of the ladies’ brought this delicious item in for breakfast. It was divine! Even though Apple Crisp is traditionally made for dessert, I started serving this for breakfast brunches after that time.
I’ve made it with fresh apples, canned apples, and apple pie filling and it comes out spectacular each time. Currently, I usually use 3 or 4 cans of apple pie filling just because it’s so easy, but if you have an orchard nearby and you’re trying to use up fresh apples this is a great recipe to consider.
So whether you are in the mood for Apple Crisp for breakfast, lunch, or dinner, it’s a superb sweet dish that you’re family will come to love. If you want to add peaches and/or pears you can do that with ease with this recipe. Every combination works wonderfully. So get cracking and you will be smacking your lips in no time as you wolf down the delectable tastes of apples, cinnamon and oatmeal (and ice cream) when you make a batch of this great breakfast, uh, dessert.
When I initially posted this recipe in April 2013 it was before I started using my Canon camera for pictures. I was still using an iPhone so my pictures were not quite as crisp and clear as I would have liked. Even though this recipe has almost 3,000 pins on Pinterest, I still wanted to update the recipe (June 2016). I did so by making it for a New Member’s Luncheon at our church last weekend. While I served it for dessert, it’s still exceptionally good for breakfast too. 🙂
Apple Crisp is divine–and really quick and easy to make. We love this delicious recipe!
Apple Crisp is a sumptuous recipe for either breakfast or dinner! It’s wonderful served a la mode as a dessert.
I served this for a brunch last weekend. Yum.
Here’s what I did.
I used these ingredients. I recommend Lucky Leaf premium apple pie filling because it’s filled with fruit instead of half a can of sauce like some of the cheaper pie fillings.
I used 4 cans of apple pie filling. You can also use 10 cups of apples but I wasn’t in the mood to peel that many apples! Place apple pie filling in a bowl. Add sugar, cinnamon and UNBLEACHED all-purpose flour. Bleached flour toughens baked goods.
Stir to combine.
Place apple pie mixture in a 9×13″ casserole dish that has been sprayed with cooking spray. Pour water over top.
I used these ingredients for the streusel topping.
In a mixing bowl, melt butter. Add brown sugar, UNBLEACHED flour, oatmeal, baking soda and baking powder.
Stir ingredients to combine.
Crumble oatmeal topping over top of apples.
Bake at 350 for about 45 minutes.
Dish up with serving spoon. This gooey dessert is great topped with ice cream.
This recipe is so quick and easy to put together. You can have this ready for the oven in about 15 minutes and ready to serve hot out of the oven in about an hour!
Here’s the recipe.

Don’t understand why this recipe doesn’t have a higher rating. Made this last night…super easy and my family loved it.

This looks like a great recipe and I am likely to try it. However, please consider using the correct measuring cups so that your recipes are more accurate. Dry ingredients are supposed to be measured in cups that can be leveled off.

Hi, Patty. This is not one of those recipes that you have to be strictly exact in measuring. I believe you will find it delicious no matter which way you measure the flour. Have a great week.

Who are you to tell another Baker her equipment that she uses is wrong. You obviously don’t bake a lot, so maybe consider keeping your uneducated opinions to yourself

Patty,
Wow…I know that you wrote this more than two years ago but really?? Any real cook knows that cooking or baking sometimes is by sight and taste. I don’t profess to be an expert but I am a mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who cooks all of the time. Most of the time I don’t use recipes. Bakers and cooks a long time ago didn’t have the measuring utensils that we have today. I found your remark very rude. Just saying that if you can’t follow a recipe like this maybe you need to have more confidence in yourself and give it a try before chastising someone who is trying to help an everyday homemaker.

It’s wonderful. We love it for breakfast but you can always reheat the leftovers for dinner and add a spoon of ice cream 🙂
