M&M Party Cookies
M&M Party Cookies are amazing cookies! This marvelous cookie is loaded with everyone’s favorite chocolate– M&M’s! It’s decadent, delicious, and not too difficult to make. We love these cookies and have made them several times for our yearly baking extravaganza at Christmas time where we bake anywhere from 2,500 to 5,000 cookies to give away to friends, family, co-workers, seminary departments, neighbors, and folks at church.

If you need a wonderful cookie for your tailgating party, your children’s school parties, birthday parties, baby showers, potlucks, or because you want a bite of chocolate, this cookie is the answer. It has M&M’s in the body of the cookie but also placed on top so you are sure to get that wonderful M&M taste in every bite.
While I’ve used the M&M Christmas color baking bits for this post, I actually prefer using regular candy-style M&M’s rather than the baking bits.
I have the original version of this recipe that comes from both my mom, and Nena Meimaris, the wife of one of John’s co-workers when he worked at the Baptist Convention of New England in the early 90s.
The original version created by M&Ms has shortening while subsequent versions have modified that to butter as a replacement. I prefer using the original version which I think I’ve had since the 80s.
When I first posted this recipe in November 2012, my pictures, though presented nicely, were taken with a small iPhone 3 camera. As a result, they were not as clear as I would have liked. At the time, I used the red and green baking M&M candies.
Personally, I prefer the look of the regular M&Ms even during the holidays. I recently remade this recipe (September 2015) to give to our landlord, who is currently in an assisted living facility and is allowing us to live in his house while our home is being built. We are friends with his grandson and he informed us that his grandpa ate ALL the cookies and was unwilling to share even one of them with buddies. 🙂
M&M Party Cookies really are terrific cookies. The only adjustment I made to the recipe was to add a wee bit more flour so they wouldn’t flatten out too much while baking. This oven cooks so much faster than my previous ovens, so as with any baking recipe, use the time only as a guide. Your oven may take longer or shorter to bake (no matter if it is calibrated or not).
Let’s party with M&M Party Cookies!
M&M Party Cookies are great for holiday baking when you can find the red and green M&Ms. You can use the pastel colors for Easter, Red for Valentine’s Day, Green for St. Patrick’s Day, orange for Halloween, and Red, White and Blue for July 4th.
These great cookies are a wonderful choice for tailgating parties, baby showers, potlucks or any family get-together.
Here’s what I did.
I used these ingredients.
Place shortening in a mixing bowl. Add brown sugar, white sugar, vanilla, salt, baking soda and eggs.
Mix everything together with an electric mixer until smooth.
Add UNBLEACHED all-purpose flour. Bleached flour toughens baked goods. Measure out about a half cup of M&Ms and set aside. Add the remaining M&M’s.
Stir all ingredients together with a wooden spoon.
Spray cookie sheets with cooking spray. Roll cookies into balls and place on sprayed cookie sheets. Place reserved M&M’s on top of cookies and press down slightly.
Bake at 350 for about 12 minutes or until puffy but not liquid-like in the centers. Remove from oven.
M&M Party Cookies are great cookies for cookie exchanges, to take to office parties, or for company.
Everyone loves these cookies because they’re filled with everyone’s favorite candy–M&Ms!
Here’s the recipe.
