Butter Pecan Turtle Bars are rich, decadent, chocolaty & absolutely drool-worthy. The rich caramel & butter pecan layer in the middle is covered with melted chocolate chips. The result is nothing short of spectacular! These lovely cookies are terrific for holidays, potlucks, tailgating parties, soccer games, baby showers and backyard barbecues. They're also wonderful for days when you just want to satisfy your chocolate cravings. They are oh, so good.

Equipment

  • 1 9x13" glass baking dish
  • 1 large mixing bowl
  • 1 wooden spoon
  • 1 medium sauce pan
  • 1 electric mixer
  • 1 nut chopper if nuts are not previously chopped
  • 1 narrow spatula or rubber spatula
  • measuring cups
  • measuring spoons
  • 1 regular spatula

Ingredients
  

  • 2 cups UNBLEACHED all-purpose flour (Bleached flour toughens baked goods)
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter softened
  • 1 cup brown sugar firmly packed
  • 1 cup pecans chopped
  • 2/3 cup unsalted butter
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar firmly packed
  • 12 oz. bag semi-sweet chocolate chips or milk chocolate chips

Instructions
 

  • Preheat oven to 350°F.
  • Mix flour, 1/2 cup butter and 1 cup brown sugar with an electric mixer at low speed until crumbly.
  • It will take about a minute or two to get the butter worked in to very small pieces.
  • Press mixture into the bottom of a greased 9x13” glass baking dish.
  • Sprinkle pecans evenly over crust.
  • In a small to medium saucepan at medium heat, bring 2/3 cup butter and 1/2 cup brown sugar to a boil.
  • Cook and stir continuously for 1 minute.
  • Remove from heat.
  • Pour brown sugar mixture evenly over the crust layer.
  • Bake for 20 to 25 minutes or until boiled mixture has set.
  • Remove dish from oven.
  • Immediately sprinkle the top of the dish with chocolate chips.
  • Allow chocolate chips to soften about a minute before spreading evenly over all with a narrow spatula.
  • Cool completely before cutting into bars.

Notes

NOTE: I baked my bars almost 30 minutes because I had two pans in the oven at once.
