Herbed Cheese Bread

This tasty and delicious bread is filled with cheddar cheese and lots of fresh herbs. It's a terrific dunking bread for soups, but fantastic for any main dish entree. Great for company and holiday dinners.

Equipment

  • 1 9-inch round glass baking dish
  • 1 large mixing bowl
  • 1 whisk
  • 1 wooden spoon
  • measuring cups
  • measuring spoons
  • 1 sharp knife to mince herbs
  • 1 spatula

Ingredients
  

  • 1/2 cup 2% milk (I used 2/3 cup half-and-half)
  • 1 large egg beaten
  • 1 1/2 cups UNBLEACHED all-purpose flour (bleached flour toughens baked goods)
  • 1 tsp. sea salt
  • 1 tsp. baking powder
  • 1 tbsp. fresh parsley minced
  • 1 tbsp. fresh chives finely minced
  • 1 tsp. fresh thyme minced
  • 1 tsp. fresh oregano minced
  • 1 1/2 cups Colby Jack or Cheddar cheese shredded (divided use)
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter melted (1/2 stick)

Instructions
 

  • Grease a 9” round baking dish.
  • Whisk egg with half-and-half in large mixing bowl.
  • Add flour, salt, baking powder, parsley, chives thyme, oregano and 1 cup cheese.
  • Stir to combine.
  • Spread mixture into prepared baking dish.
  • Sprinkle remaining ½ cup cheese over top.
  • Drizzle melted butter over all.
  • Bake at 350° for 30-40 minutes or until golden brown and a toothpick inserted in center comes out clean.
