This fabulous 24-Hour Layered Salad is spectacular! This salad includes several layers and is totally awesome for potlucks, backyard barbecues and summer holidays like Father's Day, Fourth of July or Labor Day. Everyone loves the flavors of this incredibly delicious salad.

Equipment

  • 1 large salad bowl or trifle dish
  • 1 sharp knife to cut vegetables
  • 1 skillet to fry bacon
  • 1 small mixing bowl
  • 1 wooden spoon
  • measuring cups
  • measuring spoons

Ingredients
  

  • 10 oz. pkg. romaine lettuce with carrots and red cabbage (I used about half a package)
  • 1 cup fresh spinach
  • 1/3 cup matchsticks carrots
  • 1 rib celery diced
  • 1 large red pepper diced
  • 1/2 large yellow crookneck squash julienned
  • 1/2 large zucchini squash julienned
  • 1/2 large cucumber peeled
  • 1/2 to 2/3 cup small cauliflower florets
  • 1/2 to 2/3 cup small broccoli florets
  • 1/3 cup frozen peas
  • 1/4 cup red onion finely diced
  • 1/2 cup green grapes halved
  • 1/4 to 1/3 cup raisins
  • 12 oz. hickory-smoked bacon crisp fried and crumbled into small pieces (use a nitrate & preservative free bacon, if desired)
  • 4 to 6 hard-boiled eggs peeled and quartered (as desired)
  • 1 large tomato cut in 8 wedges
  • 1 to 1 1/2 cups Romano cheese finely grated (as desired)
  • 3/4 cup miracle whip
  • 3/4 cup sour cream
  • 2-3 tbsp. granulated sugar as desired

Instructions
 

  • Layer spring mix, romaine, carrots, celery, red pepper, squashes, cucumber, cauliflower, broccoli, peas, grapes, and raisins in a very large salad bowl or trifle dish.
  • Combine sour cream and Miracle whip and spread over top of salad.
  • Sprinkle sugar over top of Miracle Whip mixture.
  • Sprinkle Romano cheese over top of sugar layer.
  • Crisp fry bacon then spread bacon pieces over top of Romano cheese layer.
  • Arrange tomatoes and hard-boiled eggs over top in whatever design you prefer.
  • Refrigerate 6 hours or overnight.

Notes

NOTE: This is a great salad to take to a potluck because you can make it the night before you need it. But it needs to be eaten within two days, so if you can’t eat this much salad in two days, and you’re not having company to help you eat it all, you may want to cut the recipe in half or leave off the salad dressing and portion it out individually.
