Equipment

  • 1 large skillet or griddle
  • 1 medium mixing bowl
  • 1 whisk
  • 1 wooden spoon
  • measuring cups
  • measuring spoons
  • 1 spatula

Ingredients

  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 cup half-and-half
  • 1 tsp. vanilla extract
  • 1 tsp. cinnamon
  • 6-8 slices Honey Walnut Bread or use thickly sliced bread of your choice
  • 2 tbsp. unsalted butter
  • 1/4 cup powdered sugar as garnish
  • 1/4 cup maple syrup as garnish
  • 1/4 cup walnuts as garnish

Instructions

  • Heat griddle or skillet over medium heat.
  • Add a little butter and cover the surface of the pan.
  • Crack eggs into a medium sized bowl and whisk until beaten.
  • Stir in half-and-half, vanilla, and cinnamon.
  • Dip bread slices into custard; turn bread over so both sides are covered well.
  • Lift bread slices out carefully with both hands so they don’t tear.
  • Place in buttered skillet or griddle.
  • Cook about 2 minutes on each side until bread becomes a golden brown.
  • Flip bread over with spatula and cook the other side about 2 minutes.
  • Remove from heat.
  • Cut bread on the diagonal.
  • Sprinkle with powdered sugar and glaze with maple syrup or honey.
  • Sprinkle walnuts on top, if desired.

Notes

NOTE: While I used a Homemade Honey Walnut Bread, you can substitute any thick-sliced bread of your choice. To get the same flavor, add some walnuts to the custard. Sprinkle powdered sugar over top of hot French Toast. Glaze with maple syrup (or honey), and sprinkle walnuts over top.
