1 spatula
1 cup Crisco shortening no substitutes 1/2 cup granulated sugar 2 1/2 cups UNBLEACHED all-purpose flour Bleached flour toughens baked goods 1 cup brown sugar packed 1 1/2 cups milk-chocolate M&Ms divided use, (3/4 lb.) 2 large eggs 1 tsp. salt 1 tsp. baking soda 2 tsp. vanilla extract
Reserve ½ cup M&Ms.
Blend shortening, sugars, vanilla, eggs, salt and baking soda with an electric mixer in bowl.
Add flour and M&Ms.
Roll into balls and place on cookie sheets sprayed with cooking spray.
Place more M&Ms on top of dough balls and press cookies down slightly on cookie sheets.
Bake about 12 minutes at 350° or until still puffy, but not liquid-like in centers.
Rotate cookie sheets on oven racks every six minutes of baking time.
Remove cookies with spatula to wire racks; cool completely.
NOTE: I usually end up needing about ¾ cup M&Ms for the top of the cookies, so two 11.4-oz. bags are needed.
