Classic Spinach Dip

Teresa Ambra
Fantastic appetizer that truly is an American classic. It uses spinach, Knorr's vegetable soup mix, water chestnuts, green onions, sour cream and mayo or Miracle Whip. We like to serve this in pumpernickel or sourdough bread bowls. It's terrific for any tailgating party or the Super Bowl!

Equipment

  • 1 large mixing bowl
  • 1 sharp knife to cut vegetables
  • measuring cups
  • measuring spoons
  • 1 wooden spoon

Ingredients

  • 10 oz. pkg. frozen chopped spinach thawed
  • 1 1/2 cups sour cream
  • 1 cup Hellman’s mayonnaise or Miracle Whip
  • 1 pkg. Knorr's vegetable soup mix
  • 8 oz. can water chestnuts sliced, drained
  • 3 green onions finely chopped

Instructions

  • Squeeze spinach until dry.
  • Combine all ingredients. Chill.
  • Serve with raw vegetables.
  • This is wonderfully festive stuffed into a hollowed out pumpernickel bread round or sourdough bread round.
  • Also good served with crackers, especially Ritz crackers.

Notes

NOTE: You can also use Miracle Whip rather than mayonnaise as it provides a little more zesty flavor than plain mayonnaise. Both work with excellent results.
