Finnish Cardamom Loaf is a delightful and tasty homemade bread made in the breadmaker. This sturdy and savory bread uses cardamom as the main seasoning. It's terrific for breakfast, but also wonderful to serve with soup and chili on cold, winter nights. Recipe makes a 2-lb. bread loaf.
1 electric knife preferred, or sharp bread knife to cut bread
Ingredients
1cupevaporated milk
1/4cupwater
1largeegg
3tbsp.unsalted buttercut in small slivers and pieces
4cupsbread flourdon’t use all purpose flour
1/2cuphoneyor brown sugar, packed
1tsp.sea saltor kosher salt
1tsp.ground cardamom
1 1/4tsp.bread machine yeast
Instructions
Layer ingredients in breadmaker canister in order listed.
Bake on regular bread machine cycle.
Mine takes 3 hours 50 minutes.
Allow bread to cool 15 minutes before removing from canister.
Butter top and sides of bread to prevent crusts from hardening.
Allow bread to cool an additional 15 minutes before cutting.
About 20 half slices.
Notes
NOTE: Homemade bread uses no preservatives. Refrigerate bread after two days to prevent mold.NOTE: I recommend using Fleischmann's bread yeast over any other brand.NOTE: Regular flour does not contain enough gluten so bread will not adhere as well. Bread flour is recommended so bread does not end up crumbly.
