Slow Cooker Honey Garlic Chicken is fantastic. This easy, tasty and scrumptious dinner entree is so easy to prepare since everything is tossed into the crockpot. It's great with either boneless chicken thighs or boneless chicken breasts. We serve it over wild rice and add our favorite salad or side dish. If you enjoy Asian flavored entrees, this one is marvelous and one your whole family will enjoy.
2lbs.chicken thighsboneless, skinless, trimmed of excess fat (about 8-10 thighs)
1/2cuphoney
1/2cupunsalted buttermelted (1 stick)
2tbsp.low sodium soy sauce(I use a gluten free brand)
2tbsp.hoisin sauceor oyster sauce
2tbsp.rice wine vinegar
6small to medium clovesgarlicminced
1tsp.fresh gingerpeeled and grated
2green onionssliced, divided use
2 to 3tbsp.cornstarch
4tbsp.water
2tsp.sesame seedsfor garnish
Instructions
Place half of the green onions, all of the ginger, garlic, rice wine vinegar, oyster sauce, soy sauce, butter and honey in a crockpot.
Whisk thoroughly.
Carefully place chicken pieces in the sauce, turning the pieces over a couple of times to coat well.
Cover with lid and cook approximately 3-4 hours on low setting (this is for bone-in chicken).
If chicken pieces are extra thick, they may take the full 4 hours, chicken thighs will be done in three hours or less. Boneless chicken breasts and chicken thighs will be done in 2 1/2 to 3 hours.
During the last 30 minutes of cooking time, combine cornstarch and water until dissolved.
Stir cornstarch mixture into sauce.
Heat thoroughly an additional 30 minutes.
Season with additional salt and pepper, if desired.
Garnish with sesame seeds and remaining green onions.
Serve over hot, cooked rice.
Notes
NOTE: Be very careful not to overcook the chicken. Boneless chicken breasts or thighs cook more quickly than bone-in chicken pieces.NOTE: This can also be made with boneless, skinless chicken breasts. There’s enough sauce for about 8 chicken breasts.NOTE: Because the sauce contains oyster sauce or hoisin sauce, this recipe is not gluten free.
