Honey Walnut French Toast is the ultimate in comfort food. This delicious breakfast entree is hearty, filling and so satisfying for weekend, company or holiday breakfasts. You'll be licking your chops after the first bite! Serve with bacon or sausage and fresh fruit for a marvelous country style breakfast.
- 4 large eggs
- 1 cup half-and-half
- 1 tsp. vanilla extract
- 1 tsp. cinnamon
- 6-8 slices Honey Walnut Bread or use thickly sliced bread of your choice
- unsalted butter
- powdered sugar as garnish
- maple syrup as garnish
- walnuts as garnish
Heat griddle or skillet over medium heat.
Add a little butter and cover the surface of the pan.
Crack eggs into a medium sized bowl and whisk until beaten.
Stir in half-and-half, vanilla, and cinnamon.
Dip bread slices into custard; turn bread over so both sides are covered well.
Lift bread out carefully with both hands so it doesn’t tear.
Place in skillet or griddle.
Cook about 2 minutes on each side until bread becomes a golden brown.
Flip bread over with spatula and cook the other side about 2 minutes.
Remove from heat.
Cut bread on the diagonal.
Sprinkle with powdered sugar and glaze with maple syrup or honey.
Sprinkle walnuts on top, if desired.
NOTE: While I used a Homemade Honey Walnut Bread, you can substitute any thick-sliced bread of your choice. To get the same flavor, add some walnuts to the custard. Sprinkle powdered sugar over top of hot French Toast. Glaze with maple syrup (or honey), and sprinkle walnuts over top.
