Snickerdoodles

An American classic, Snickerdoodles are a wonderful sugar cookie with a cinnamon-sugar coating on the outside. These cookies are delectable! Perfect for potlucks, tailgating or office parties, watching soccer practice or backyard barbecues.

Ingredients
  

COOKIE DOUGH:

  • 1 cup Crisco shortening
  • 1 1/2 cups sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 3/4 cups Gold Medal UNBLEACHED all-purpose flour bleached flour toughens baked goods
  • 2 tsp. cream of tartar
  • 1 tsp. baking soda
  • 1/4 tsp. salt

CINNAMON-SUGAR MIXTURE:

  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 2 tbsp. cinnamon

Instructions
 

COOKIE DOUGH:

  • Cream shortening, sugar, eggs, baking soda, cream of tartar and salt, beating well.
  • Add flour and stir with a wooden spoon.
  • Roll into golfball-size balls then roll the ball in a mixture of cinnamon sugar.
  • Bake 2” apart in a 350° oven for 10-12 minutes.

CINNAMON-SUGAR MIXTURE:

  • Stir to combine.
  • Roll cookies in cinnamon-sugar mixture before baking.

Notes

NOTE: The original recipe called for 2 tbsp. sugar and 2 tbsp. cinnamon for the cinnamon sugar mixture. This is usually not enough to roll the cookies in. I usually use ½ cup sugar with 2 tbsp. cinnamon.
