Honey Walnut French Toast
A couple of weeks ago I made this delicious Honey Walnut French toast recipe. It was scrumptious. I used slices of my homemade Honey Walnut Bread and followed the basic recipe for my Cinnabon French Toast. I sprinkled with powdered sugar and poured maple syrup over top. But you could just as easily serve this with honey and a few walnuts sprinkled over the top, if you prefer eating it that way.
Regardless, Honey Walnut French Toast was wonderful. If you don’t feel like making up a batch of my homemade Honey Walnut Bread, then choose a good honey wheat bread instead and garnish with honey or maple syrup and walnuts.
I have to admit I LOVE pancakes and French toast. I have ever since I was a little kid. My favorite French Toast of all time is made at Shari’s Restaurants in the mountain states and on the west coast. They use leftover Cinnamon Rolls (and their rolls are mammoth in size) as the bread for their French toast. I don’t think those can be beat and one of these days I’m going to have to come up with my own version.
But for now, here is a wonderful French toast recipe your family is sure to love. It’s very quick and easy (especially if you have the bread on hand already). Maple syrup is so much more expensive than corn syrup, but it is so worth it. Especially for special occasion breakfasts. I recommend you use real maple syrup or honey on this French toast recipe whenever possible.
Honey Walnut French Toast is the ultimate in comfort food. This breakfast treat is so mouthwatering and absolutely marvelous. Your kids will love having this fabulous recipe for weekend, company or holiday breakfasts. It’s also great for other special occasions where you provide a big country-style breakfast. For that matter, it’s wonderful to serve as “Breakfast for Dinner!” Honey Walnut French Toast is great served with sausage, bacon, fried eggs and fruit. It’s also a very satisfying entree that will have you licking your chops in a jiffy! Your family will want you to make it over and over again. Spoil them and make up a batch. 🙂
I initially posted this recipe in August 2013. My pictures were deplorable because I was still getting used to my new camera. I recently remade this recipe (December 2020) and took a few pictures. This is still one of the best French Toast recipes ever! 🙂
Honey Walnut French Toast is a scrumptious breakfast treat your whole family will enjoy.
Sprinkle French toast with powdered sugar, maple syrup or honey, and walnuts, if desired.
This breakfast entree is great served with sausage and fresh fruit. I loved every bite of this delicious French toast recipe!
I made this French Toast with homemade Honey Walnut Bread. But you can use Texas Toast or any kind of Honey Wheat Bread.
Here’s what I did.
I used these ingredients. The white container contains powdered sugar.
Place eggs in a mixing bowl and whisk eggs until beaten.
Add cinnamon and vanilla. Whisk until combined. You will never be able to get all the cinnamon lumps out of the custard.
Dip bread slices in custard mixture.
I used Honey Walnut Bread a homemade breadmaker bread that turned out wonderfully for this recipe. Turn bread over so both sides are covered.
Lift bread out carefully (using both hands) so bread doesn’t tear. Shake off excess egg custard mixture. You must have thick slices of bread to accomplish this. Thin slices are too flimsy.
Melt butter in a skillet. Place bread slices in skillet with melted butter. Cook a few minutes until lightly browned.
Flip bread over with spatula and brown the other side.
Cut slices on the diagonal when finished.
To serve: place French Toast on a plate, sprinkle with powdered sugar and walnuts. Glaze with maple syrup or honey, as desired.
Honey Walnut French Toast is a great breakfast idea for brunches and special occasion breakfasts.
Honey Walnut French Toast is sure to be a hit at your house when you make it!
