Cherry Crisp is an awesome fresh cherry dessert. This one is flavored with almond extract and has a delightful oatmeal crumb topping. It's great for summer potlucks, backyard barbecues and summer holiday fun like the Fourth of July when fresh cherries are in season. This dessert will have you salivating from the first bite! Terrific warm with ice cream on top.
Mix pitted cherries with sugar, flour, and almond extract.
Pour cherry filling into a greased or sprayed 9x13” baking dish.
Pour water evenly over all.
OATMEAL CRUMB TOPPING:
Mix oatmeal, flour, brown sugar, baking powder, baking soda and melted butter.
Crumble evenly over cherry mixture.
Bake at 350° for about 45-60 minutes, or until mixture is bubbly and liquid is set, not soupy.
Notes
NOTE: The juices from the cherries should bubble up thickly to the top when the crisp is done. If the juices are still thin, cook a little longer. My dish took one hour and fifteen minutes to cook appropriately.NOTE: You can also substitute canned cherries if fresh are unavailable. Rinse, drain and pat dry before using in recipe.
