Chunky Maple Applesauce is heavenly. This 5-ingredient recipe uses Maple Syrup and Monk Fruit Sweetener to sweeten the recipe and Honey Crisp and Granny Smith apples for the texture. It's a great side dish for company and holidays, but so easy it can be made up for everyday. This healthy, vegan, gluten free recipe is so mouthwatering, you'll be drooling from the first bite!
8cupsapplespeeled, cored and diced (Use half Granny Smith, and half of any of the following: Honey Crisp, Gala or Fuji)
2tbsp.Maple Syrupor light brown sugar, packed
2tbsp.Monk Fruit Sweeteneror light brown sugar, packed
2tsp.pure vanilla extract
1tsp. ground cinnamon
Instructions
Peel, core and chop apples.
Place in a Dutch oven along with remaining ingredients.
Cover and cook over low heat for approximately 30-40 minutes, or until apples are tender.
Remove from heat; mash apple mixture with a potato masher until sauce reaches desired consistency.
Do not overmash if you want the mixture to retain its chunky appearance.
Serve warm.

NOTE: This is about 3 ½ lbs. apples.NOTE: I doubled the recipe so my pictures reflect using 7-lbs. of apples.NOTE: If your apples are sweet, they will need LESS sugar/sweetener/Maple syrup. If you use tart apples like Granny Smiths, you will need ALL of the sweetener and perhaps even more if very tart.NOTE: I used half Honey Crisp apples and half Granny Smith Apples for this recipe.NOTE: This recipe is really better served warm. If leftovers have been refrigerated, just pop the cold applesauce in the crockpot for a few hours on low to heat up.
