Equipment

  • 1 gas grill or electric or charcoal grill
  • 1 jumbo zip lock bag
  • 1 mixing bowl
  • 1 whisk
  • 1 wooden spoon
  • 1 sharp knife
  • 1 cutting board
  • measuring cups
  • measuring spoons

Ingredients
  

  • 4 lbs. New York Strip Steaks (5 steaks)
  • 1 small onion chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic finely minced
  • 1/2 cup Tamari soy sauce (less sodium and gluten free)
  • 1 1/2 tsp. Worcestershire sauce (Lea & Perrins have a gluten free sauce)
  • 2 tbsp. white wine vinegar
  • 2 tbsp. lemon juice
  • 2 tbsp. honey Dijon mustard
  • 2 tsp. dried parsley flakes
  • 1 tsp. dried thyme
  • 1 tsp. Italian seasoning
  • 1 tsp. ground black pepper

Instructions
 

  • Chop onions and garlic; place in a small bowl.
  • Add soy sauce, Worcestershire, vinegar, lemon juice, mustard and seasonings.
  • Stir well to combine.
  • Place steaks in a Jumbo-sized zip-lock bag.
  • Pour marinade over steaks.
  • Seal bag and turn bag over a few times to coat the steaks with the marinade.
  • Place bag in a large cookie sheet pan and marinate for 8 hours, or overnight.
  • Remove meat from zip lock bag; discard marinade.
  • Grill, uncovered over medium heat until meat is cooked to desired doneness (rare, medium rare, medium or well-done).

Notes

NOTE: If you wish to keep this recipe gluten free, be sure to purchase soy sauce and Worcestershire sauce that’s gluten free.
 
NOTE: I reduced the amount of soy sauce and Worcestershire sauce in the original recipe, and I was glad I did as there was plenty of soy and Worcestershire sauce taste with the amounts listed above.
 
NOTE: Remember that most of the marinade will be poured off before grilling so the amount of sodium and calories in the recipe will decrease substantially.
