BROWNIES: 1 cup unsalted butter softened (2 sticks) 2 cups granulated sugar 4 large eggs 4 tbsp. cocoa 1 cup UNBLEACHED all-purpose flour bleached flour toughens baked goods 1 tsp. vanilla extract 1/4 tsp. salt 1 cup chopped almonds plus more for garnish 1 1/2 cups marshmallows CHOCOLATE SAUCE: 3/4 cup powdered sugar 1/4 cup unsalted butter room temperature (1/2 stick) 3 tbsp. cocoa 1 tsp. vanilla extract 2/3 cup heavy whipping cream (if using half-and-half, milk or evaporated milk decrease amount to 1/4 cup) 1/3 cup additional chopped almonds for garnish
BROWNIES: Preheat oven to 350°.
Cream the butter, sugar, eggs, vanilla and salt with an electric mixer.
Add flour, cocoa and almonds and stir well to combine.
Spray a 9x13” baking dish with cooking spray.
Pour brownie mixture into pan and bake 35-40 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean.
Remove from oven and sprinkle the marshmallows over the top.
Bake approximately 5 minutes.
Check half way through baking time. The marshmallows should soften—not brown.
Spread Chocolate Sauce over top and sprinkle with sliced almonds.
CHOCOLATE SAUCE: Meanwhile, prepare chocolate sauce while brownies are baking.
Whisk together the powdered sugar, butter, cocoa and vanilla in a bowl.
Add the cream and combine.
Drizzle the chocolate sauce over the baked brownies and allow brownies to cool at room temperature for at least an hour.
Slice and serve.
Garnish with more chopped almonds if desired.
NOTE: You will not need all the chocolate sauce for the recipe. Use remaining sauce to spoon over top of individual brownies.
