Fancy Plum Thumbprint Cookies
Fancy Plum Thumbprint cookies are delightful little cookies. Your basic cookie dough is filled with Fancy Plum jam which offers a wonderful taste–especially if you enjoy red plums and red plum jam in particular. I whipped up a very simple cookie dough and chilled it.

Then after rolling the cookie dough into balls and putting a thumbprint into the center, I filled the cookies with Fancy Plum jam. This step helped the cookies not spread so much during baking. They were superb!
Our Children’s Director called me several weeks ago and asked if I would make 150 Thumbprint Cookies for our Vacation Bible School kids for one of the days. She asked several people to bring snacks, but my assignment was Thumbprint Cookies. She also wanted a variety in case some of the attendees had allergies to certain jams. So I made six different kinds.
I’ve already posted the recipes for Raspberry Thumbprint Cookies and Apricot Thumbprint Cookies, and now I offer Fancy Plum Thumbprint Cookies. (I also made Grape, Strawberry and Four Berry) I had purchased a jar of Plum jam in order to make Ranch Pork Chops a few weeks ago. It’s not a flavor I normally buy, but I needed it for that recipe. We had quite a bit leftover so I thought it would be a good option for the Thumbprint Cookies. They really turned out wonderfully.
If you’re looking for a great recipe for holiday baking, or a cookie to take along to potlucks, parties or family gatherings, then Fancy Plum Thumbprint Cookies are sure to please. This one’s really fairly quick and easy to make and if you regularly purchase Plum jam this recipe is a win-win for you! Give it a try and you can enjoy delicious plum goodness in a cookie. Or if you have plum trees in your back yard and make your own jam then this is a great way to use some of it!
When I initially posted this recipe in August 2014, the person asking me to make the cookies requested no icing and no powdered sugar on top. She thought it would be too messy for the kids. I recently remade this recipe (July 2017) for a Kid’s Fest (carnival) our church put on in a local park. I recruited a lot of people to bake homemade cookies and I decided to remake these with a powdered sugar glaze.
I wasn’t able to locate Red Plum jam like I used the first time, so I substituted Fancy Plum jam instead. I also changed the recipe up a little bit omitting the eggs, so this cookie recipe doesn’t have to be chilled twice. I thought the cookie turned out wonderfully. But then again, I’ve always a girl who likes icing on anything. 🙂
Fancy Plum Thumbprint Cookies are a wonderful sugar cookie with Fancy Plum Jam in the centers.
These delightful cookies are great for after school snacks.
Every bite of these tasty Thumbprint Cookies is scrumptious.
Here’s what I did.
I used these ingredients for the cookies. Any kind of plum jam will work including homemade plum jam.
Soften butter. Add sugar, salt and vanilla.
Mix with an electric mixer until creamy.
Add UNBLEACHED all-purpose flour (bleached flour toughens baked goods).
Continue mixing with an electric mixer on low speed to combine well. Chill dough at least one hour.
Spray cookie sheets with cooking spray. Roll dough into balls and place on prepared cookie sheets.
With the bottom of a small wooden spoon handle, make an indentation in the center of each cookie.
Fill each cavity with about 1/8 teaspoon Fancy Plum jam. Bake cookies at 350 about 15-20 minutes or until done. Rotate pans half way through cooking time.
I used these ingredients for the icing. Combine ingredients with a whisk in a mixing bowl. Spoon into a zip lock bag.
Cut off one tip of the zip lock bag and pipe icing over top of cookies.
To serve: arrange cookies on a platter and enjoy!
Fancy Plum Thumbprint Cookies are wonderful little gems even your kids will enjoy.
These cookies are terrific treats for office parties. They taste great!
