Strawberry Twinkie Dessert

Fabulous 3-ingredient dessert that your family and friends will rave about! It’s kind of like a strawberry shortcake dessert but NOT with a biscuit-type crust. So easy everyone will think you spent hours making this dessert, yet it only takes about 5-10 minutes to prepare.

I got this fabulous recipe from Paula Moresco, when we worked together in the College of Adult Education at Dallas Baptist University. I was looking for an easy recipe and she suggested I try this one. Whenever we have entertained, our guests have loved this easy and delicious dessert. Paula called this recipe Strawberry Shortcake Dessert, but I’ve always referred to it as Strawberry Twinkie Dessert to more aptly describe what’s in the dessert. I’m pretty sure the recipe did not originate with Paula, and I’m not sure who created it. I share this recipe with you as one of our favorites.

 Finished product.

Here’s what I did.

You will need these three ingredients: 1 box of Hostess Twinkies, 24-oz. carton frozen strawberries in sugar, and a 16-oz. container of Cool Whip or other whipped topping.

Slice up nine of the 10 Hostess Twinkies in half horizontally.

Place the Twinkies cream-side-up in 9×13″ baking dish.

 Spoon thawed strawberries onto Twinkies.

Use up the whole container of strawberries so the Twinkies are completely covered.

Spread the carton of whipped topping over top the strawberries.

It really doesn’t get any easier than this! This needs to be eaten up within a couple of days of making because the syrup from the strawberries will cause the Twinkies to get too mushy otherwise.

Here’s the recipe.

STRAWBERRY TWINKIE DESSERT

(Recipe from Paula Moresco, when we worked together at Dallas Baptist University)

1 box Hostess Twinkies

1 large carton frozen sliced strawberries, in sugar (I usually use 24-oz.), defrosted

16-oz. container Cool Whip

Cut Twinkies lengthwise and layer cream-side-up in bottom of 9×13” baking pan or dish. Spoon thawed strawberries over top of Twinkies. It will cover the surface pretty well. Spread Cool Whip over top. Refrigerate until ready. This is really good for only about 48-60 hours. It is best to make it the night before you need it, or earlier in the day of the day you need it. It gets a little mushy after a couple of days in the refrigerator. Serves about 12.

Yummy!

Another view.

Definitely worthy of being a company dessert.
