Sweet and Savory Pie Recipes is a collection of over 30 different kinds of pie. I have dessert pies which are mostly ice cream pies and are usually made in a 9×13″ baking dish instead of a round pie plate. I have traditional sweet pies mostly with fruit but also chocolate, lemon and other flavors. I also have savory pies that run the gamut from pies with a real pie crust–or not! Many of these are some version of potpie. All of these pies are wonderful and this compilation gives you some great ideas for making homemade pie.

I have to admit I L-O-V-E pie. My mom made the best pies for us as kids and only her mother (my grandmother) could top her in making the flakiest, most drool worthy pies on the planet. Unfortunately, both my mom and grandma are long since deceased but their fabulous sweet pie recipes live on! My mom stuck mostly with fruit pies (any kind), but I’ve branched out a lot as I’ve gotten older and make all kinds of pies these days. I really enjoy a good savory, meat pie. While I have some vegetarian pies in this collection, most of my meat pies are almost like stew in a pie. The sauce is thick and filled with veggies and meat and is so sumptuous that you will feel incredibly satisfied.

I’ve also included Mom’s Homemade Pie Crust in this collection for those of you looking for a great pie crust recipe. While this recipe uses shortening, Mom and Grandma’s original recipe used lard or butter. If you don’t have time to make a Homemade Pie Crust, then use a store bought crust (deep dish if possible) and use one of these delicious fillings. You will be in seventh heaven. 🙂
