John needed some goodies to take to some friends back in February. I threw together these blondies based on my Banana Blondies recipe. I had plenty of ripe bananas that needed using up and this recipe really fits the bill for that. It does have a few additional steps since you brown the butter for the blondie as well as the icing. But it’s not an overly difficult recipe. Plus, the outcome is outstanding. My Butterscotch version is also delightful.
Chocolate Chip Banana Blondies are terrific to serve as a dessert for any time of the year. They’re great for potlucks, tailgating parties or summer holiday fun like Memorial Day or Fourth of July. It’s a fantastic way to get a dose of chocolate and use up overripe bananas at the same time! Surely a win-win for almost any household. 🙂
Chocolate Chip Banana Blondies are mouthwatering.
This dessert will cure any sweet tooth craving.
Bananas and chocolate are awesome together.
Here’s what I did.
I used these ingredients for the blondies.
Melt butter over medium heat. Bring to a boil and stir constantly until browned – about 5-10 minutes. Cool mixture about 5 minutes.
Add brown sugar and stir to combine.
Add eggs, sea salt and vanilla.
Mix with an electric mixer until smooth.
Mash bananas with a fork.
Add UNBLEACHED all-purpose flour. Bleached flour toughens baked goods. Add mashed bananas, chocolate chips and pecans.
Stir ingredients to combine.
Grease a 9×13″ baking dish. Spread banana blondie filling into the dish. Smooth the top. Bake at 350 for about 40 minutes until a toothpick inserted in center comes out clean. Allow mixture to cool completely before adding icing.
I used these ingredients for the icing.
Melt butter over medium heat.
Add brown sugar and half-and-half and stir to combine.
Bring to a boil. Remove from heat and cool for 5 minutes.
Add powdered sugar.
Whisk to combine.
Spread hot icing over top of cooled blondies.
Immediately sprinkle miniature chips over top of icing.
These ooey, gooey bars are terrific for tailgating parties, potlucks and any kind of family gathering.
Chocolate Chip Banana Blondies are a chocolate lover’s delight!
The browned butter icing is delicious.
Here’s the recipe.
