Apple Cinnamon Donuts
Apple Cinnamon Donuts are breathtakingly delicious! No joke. These donuts are absolutely mouthwatering. One of the things I like about them is they are baked NOT fried. I really don’t like frying donuts. It’s so much work and clean up. But baking donuts cuts out several steps and they taste a lot better, in my opinion. On top of that you save at least a hundred calories each by not frying in oil.

Donuts would probably be my food of choice if I could get away with it. I’d eat them every day all day long. 🙂 Even still, these Apple Cinnamon Donuts are great for special occasions like holidays, weekend breakfasts or for company. I was going to make these for a Mother-Daughter Tea back in May. Unfortunately after making three different kinds of muffins, I was too tired to make these too. So I made them the next day and gave some out to neighbors and gave the rest to our son and his wife for Mother’s Day.
There were so many donuts, I told them to freeze some of them and then pull them out later. We’d also given them chocolate covered strawberries, Love Bugs (cakes) and other goodies so they had plenty of sweets on hand. 🙂
I was really pleased with how these donuts turned out. They include both apples and applesauce, plus cinnamon, allspice and nutmeg. The baked donuts are dunked in melted butter and then rolled in cinnamon-sugar multiple times so they are well-coated with sugar. Yum.
If you need a donut fix, give Apple Cinnamon Donuts a try today! You won’t be sorry. Everyone we gave them to raved over them!
Apple Cinnamon Donuts are so delectable.
If you enjoy apples and cinnamon, you’ll love, love, LOVE, these donuts.
One of the nice things about Apple Cinnamon Donuts is that they are baked, NOT fried!
I coated the donuts in cinnamon-sugar mixture about four times on each side, until enough of the mixture had adhered to the donuts.
Here’s what I did.
I used these ingredients for the donuts.
Place unbleached flour in a mixing bowl. Add brown sugar, granulated sugar, baking powder, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, nutmeg and allspice.
Keep stirring ingredients until they are very well combined; set aside.
In a medium mixing bowl, melt butter.
Add applesauce, apples and buttermilk.
Add vanilla extract.
Whisk ingredients to combine.
Add wet ingredients to dry ingredients.
Stir ingredients just until combined.
Spoon donut mixture into a gallon-size Glad-Lock bag without the “stand and fill” bottom.
Zip the lock on top and then cut off a corner out of the bottom.
Spray donut tins with cooking spray. Pipe donut mixture into 19 donut tins almost to the top.
Bake at 400 degrees for 9-10 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in center comes out clean. Allow donuts to cool about ten minutes in pan.
I used these ingredients for the topping, but I tripled the recipe!
Melt butter in a small bowl; set aside.
Combine cinnamon and sugar in a small bowl. Stir really well with a fork.
Gently remove a donut from the donut pan. (I used a regular table knife to do this).
Dip the top half of the donut gently into the melted butter.
This one has more butter than you need, but it was my first try.
Dip the top part of the donut that’s been dipped in melted butter into the bowl with cinnamon-sugar. You can swirl it around a little if you desire.
Remove from cinnamon-sugar mixture and turn over.
Now dip the bottom half of the donut into the melted butter.
Now swirl the bottom half of the donut in the cinnamon-sugar mixture. I used my fingers and sprinkled cinnamon-sugar from the bowl on top of each side of the donut, patting the mixture into the donut with my fingers each time. Repeat this process about three or four times until the donuts are very well coated on each side. Gently shake off the excess sugar back into the bowl.
Place each donut on a wire rack when finished.
Serve!
Apple Cinnamon Donuts are so drool-worthy.
You’ll be swooning over every bite!
We gave these out to a few of our neighbors as well. One guy came back to John and said they absolutely LOVED these donuts.
Here’s the recipe.
