Cherry Angel Trifle
If you wish to wow your family and friends this Christmas season, make up one of these luscious, Cherry Angel Trifle’s for dessert! This easy recipe uses only 5 ingredients! Six, if you want to garnish the top with maraschino cherries. It’s creamy, and absolutely delicious. Cubes of Angel Food Cake are folded into a cream cheese and Cool Whip mixture. Then the cubes are layered between layers of cherry pie filling. Cool Whip and maraschino cherries decorate the top. Mouthwatering, irresistible and so, so good!

The first time I made this recipe was for July 4th weekend. We were spending the week with our grandkids and I made up a batch of this lovely trifle in a deep dish glass bowl. I didn’t take any pictures of it But I knew I intended to make it again. I ended up making it in August for an Empty Nester’s Potluck. I actually made two batches giving the second batch to some new neighbors in our neighborhood. This dessert was a sensational hit!
I had sooooo many people tell me how they thought this elegant and festive dessert was absolutely divine! It really is such a pleasure to the taste buds. On top of that, it’s really easy to whip up–it takes all of ten minutes. Then refrigerate it for a few hours and you’re good to go.
This dessert is fantastic with any kind of pie filling. I’ve made it with peach, blueberry, raspberry and strawberry to name a few. If you’re looking for a rave dessert for the holidays, Cherry Angel Trifle is it!
Cherry Angel Trifle is a hit every where I take it!
You can make this dessert in a 9×13″ glass baking dish, in parfait glasses, or in a trifle dish.
Cherry Angel Trifle uses only 5 ingredients! Six, if you want maraschino cherries on top.
It’s hard to say NO, to this luscious, heavenly dessert.
Here’s what I did.
I used these ingredients.
Cut Angel Food Cake down into one-inch cubes; set aside.
Place softened cream cheese and powdered sugar in a mixing bowl.
Beat with an electric mixer until smooth.
Add part of the Cool Whip.
Beat again with an electric mixer until smooth and well-incorporated.
Add Angel Food Cake cubes to cream cheese mixture.
Stir gently to combine.
Place half of the Angel Food Cake mixture into a trifle dish.
Add one can of cherry pie filling and spread over top.
Spread remaining Angel Food Cake mixture over top of the cherry pie filling.
Spread remaining can of cherry pie filling over top.
Spread Cool Whip over top of cherry pie filling mounding up in a circle and leaving a one-to-two-inch border around the edge of the trifle dish.
Decorate with maraschino cherries if desired. Refrigerate about two hours before serving.
You can also make this in a 9×13″ glass baking dish. Spread ALL of the Angel Food Cake mixture on the bottom of the dish. Spoon both cans of cherry pie filling over top of the the Angel Food Cake mixture. Top with some of the remaining Cool Whip and decorate with maraschino cherries, if desired. Refrigerate about two hours before serving.

Here’s the recipe.
CHERRY ANGEL TRIFLE
(Recipe inspired from my Blueberry Angel Trifle)
Cherry Angel Trifle
Equipment
- 1 large trifle dish or parfait dishes or a 9×13" glass baking dish
- 1 large mixing bowl
- 1 bread knife
- 1 cutting board
- 1 wooden spoon
- measuring cups
- 1 electric mixer
Ingredients
- 8 oz. pkg. cream cheese softened
- 1 cup confectioners' sugar
- 16 oz. Angel Food Cake already prepared (usually found in the produce section or bakery)
- 16 oz. container Cool Whip thawed
- 42 oz. can cherry pie filling (two 21-oz. cans)
- maraschino cherries for decoration, if desired
Instructions
- TO MAKE IN A 9X13" BAKING DISH: In a large mixing bowl, beat cream cheese and confectioners’ sugar until smooth.
- Add Cool Whip and mix again until smooth and creamy.
- Gently fold in all of the Angel Food cake cubes.
- Spread mixture evenly into an ungreased 9×13” glass baking dish.
- Top with both cans of cherry pie filling.
- Spread whipped topping over top in a huge round mound.
- Decorate top with maraschino cherries, if desired. (Rinse and pat dry before using).
- Cover and refrigerate at least two hours before cutting into squares.
- TO MAKE IN A TRIFLE DISH: In a large mixing bowl, beat cream cheese and confectioners’ sugar until smooth.
- Add Cool Whip and mix again until smooth and creamy.
- Gently fold in all of the Angel Food cake cubes.
- Spread half of the angel food cake mixture into a trifle dish.
- Spoon one can of cherry pie filling over top.
- Spread remaining angel food cake mixture on top of the cherry pie filling.
- Top with remaining can of cherry pie filling.
- Spoon remaining whipped topping in center of the trifle dish leaving at least a two-inch border around the outside edge. (See note below).
- Place maraschino cherries around the edges of the whipped topping, if desired.
- Refrigerate until ready to serve.
