Meatball Sandwiches
Meatball Sandwiches are terrific. They’re especially delicious for weekend suppers. Ladle the meatballs and sauce over any kind of roll, top with either mozzarella or provolone cheese and enjoy! The cheese melts if the sauce is hot. Otherwise, just pop the sandwich in the microwave for 10-15 seconds and lightly melt the cheese. Meatball Sandwiches are perfect by themselves or add some chips and dip, or hummus and you’re good to go.

The first weekend in November our church hosted a youth event called “The Weekend.” Kids stayed in host homes and ate meals provided by different members of the church. It was a weekend of fun and games, but also Bible study, worship and music, and getting to know other kids their age. I cooked for a home of high school girls. I decided to serve Meatball Sandwiches for Saturday night dinner. I added chips, Luscious S’Mores Bars and Pumpkin Blondies. Everything tasted so delectably and the girls loved all the food.
I really liked these mouthwatering sandwiches. I’m a meatball lover anyway and probably have 12 to 15 recipes on my blog. Meatballs are one of my favorite things to eat. I’d eat them all the time if I could get away with it. So they’re perfect on sub-sandwich rolls with a slab of melted mozzarella or provolone cheese on top. This recipe isn’t overly difficult to make. In about an hour and a half you can have these tasty meatballs ready for sandwiches. You have a hearty dinner that isn’t a lot of work and is certainly kid-friendly.
I also recommend Meatball Sandwiches for tailgating parties or New Year’s Eve or Day celebrations. It’s one of those delightful entrees that everyone keeps coming back for. If you’re having company over for a casual dinner, Meatball Sandwiches can’t be beat.
Meatball Sandwiches are marvelous. They’re kid-friendly, too.
The sauce is thick and delicious.
Adding the mozzarella or provolone cheese over top, makes these Meatball Sandwiches special.
These are perfect for tailgating parties.
Here’s what I did.
I used these ingredients to make the meatballs.
Place ground beef and Italian sausage in a mixing bowl. Add eggs, bread crumbs, seasonings and half-and-half (or milk).
Combine mixture thoroughly with your hands. Roll into golf ball-sized meatballs.
Spray cookie sheet with cooking spray. Place meatballs on cookie sheet. Bake at 350 about 20-30 minutes or until meatballs are cooked all the way through. Allow meatballs to cool on cookie sheet. Set aside.
I used these ingredients to make the sauce, plus water.
Place Italian sausage in a Dutch oven. Add mushrooms, onions and bell peppers.
Saute until beef is no longer pink. Drain grease.
Add tomato paste, stewed tomatoes, seasonings and brown sugar.
Stir to combine ingredients. Bring mixture to a simmer. Add water.
Add meatballs and stir.
Cover with lid and simmer 45 minutes to an hour over low heat.
The sauce is nice and thick and tastes amazing.
Split rolls in half. Place a piece of mozzarella or provolone cheese on bottom of bread. Ladle Meatballs over top of cheese. Place another piece of cheese on top. The cheese will melt if sauce is really hot. Otherwise, microwave about 10 seconds to soften cheese.
Serve Meatball Sandwiches with chips, crackers or an antipasto tray.
We loved the way Meatball Sandwiches turned out!

Meatball Sandwiches with a slab of mozzarella or provolone cheese melted over top are wonderful for company or holiday parties, too.
The sauce comes out really thick which is exactly what you want for sandwiches. Otherwise, they are too soupy.
