Chunky Maple Applesauce
Gluten Free Living – 2024
Oh my goodness! Chunky Maple Applesauce rated an A+ when I served it to several different dinner parties we were having back in March. This easy, 5-ingredient recipe is heavenly. I changed the recipe up a bit and was really happy with the results. Instead of brown sugar, I substituted Maple Syrup and Monk Fruit Sweetener (without erythritol or sucralose). And, I used half Honey Crisp apples and half Granny Smith apples. The combination of flavors was marvelous. No kidding.

Back in early March we had several dinner parties where we invited church friends or neighbors for dinner. One of those was a Tex-Mex night, and another was a Grilling Out night. For the Tex-Mex night, I served Spicy Nacho Bake, East Texas Mexican Cornbread, Southwestern Layered Salad, Beefy Taco Dip, Chunky Homemade Guacamole, and this Chunky Maple Applesauce. Others brought dessert and appetizers.
For the Grilling Out night, I served Grilled Chicken Thighs with Onions, Grilled Nectarines, Grilled Plums and Grilled Pineapple. I also made Loaded Bacon and Cheese Potatoes, Roasted Parsnips, Green Beans with Garlic Rosemary Butter, Spicy Honey-Brushed Carrots, Peachy Berry Tossed Salad, Butterfinger Éclair Dessert and this Chunky Maple Applesauce. It is amazing how many people raved over this applesauce recipe!
I served it warm, right out of the crockpot (the second time), and I think it’s actually better warm (or hot) rather than cold. Everyone loved the chunky texture, but the Maple Syrup is what made everyone take notice. It gives applesauce a flavor that can’t be beat! This is also a healthy recipe using healthy ingredients. It’s gluten free and vegan.
If you prefer to use brown sugar in the recipe, you can certainly do that, but I think Maple Syrup and zero-calorie Monk Fruit Sweetener was pretty amazing. Watch your family drool over this delightful recipe.
Chunky Maple Applesauce is heavenly.
Everyone loved this amazing applesauce recipe.
Cinnamon and pure vanilla extract provide a great complement to the Maple Syrup in this side dish.
I served Chunky Maple Applesauce with several different meals. This one includes Spicy Honey-Brushed Carrots, Loaded Bacon and Cheese Potatoes, Roasted Parsnips, Green Beans with Garlic Rosemary Butter and Grilled Chicken Thighs with Onions.
Here’s what I did.
I used these ingredients plus Granny Smith Apples.
Peel and core apples; dice apples and place in a large Dutch oven or stock pot.
Add vanilla.
Add cinnamon, Monk Fruit Sweetener and Maple Syrup.
Stir ingredients until well combined.
Cover with lid and cook over low heat approximately 30-40 minutes or until apples are tender.
Mash apples with a potato masher until apples reach the desired consistency.
DO NOT OVERMASH, if you want the apples to retain their chunky texture.
Serve Chunky Maple Applesauce hot or warm.
Transfer to a glass serving bowl, if desired.
I ate gobs of this stuff!
Everyone loved the chunky texture, and it really was best served warm. When I reheated the applesauce, I poured it into a crockpot and kept it on low or warm until I was ready to serve dinner.
Chunky Maple Applesauce is terrific served right from the stove top to the table! But if you need to re-heat the applesauce, use a crockpot to keep it warm.
These close-up pictures show the texture of the applesauce a little better.
Here’s the recipe.
