I usually find Key Lime pie filling here in Texas during the summer at our local H-E-B or Kroger grocery stores. Lucky Leaf produces it, and it’s great for all sorts of desserts. You can also order it online at Amazon. As soon as I see it become available, I usually pick up several cans with the purpose of making some sort of dessert with it. If you enjoy Key Lime anything, this is the dessert for you!
I made key Lime Pie Angel Trifle for our October Empty Nesters’ Potluck last year and of course, everyone wanted a spoonful! The only thing I changed from my regular recipe was to increase the powdered sugar in the recipe slightly to counteract some of the tartness from the key lime pie filling. It turned out delightfully. This is a great dessert for holidays like St. Patrick’s Day when everything is themed in green! Enjoy.

Here’s what I did.

I used these ingredients.

Cut the Angel Food Cake into one-inch cubes; set aside.

In a large mixing bowl, combine softened cream cheese and powdered sugar.

Mix ingredients with an electric mixer until well blended.

Add half of the thawed Cool Whip.

Beat with an electric mixer again until well mixed.

Add Angel Food Cake cubes.

Stir well to combine, but don’t be so heavy-handed that the cake cubes dissolve into crumbs!

Spoon half of the Angel Food Cake mixture into a trifle dish.

Spoon one can of Key Lime pie filling over top.

Add remaining Angel Food Cake mixture on top of Key Lime pie filling.

Spoon remaining can of Key Lime Pie filling over top of Angel Food Cake mixture.

Spoon and swirl Cool Whip over top of the Key Lime Pie filling, leaving a one-to-two-inch border. You may not use all of the remaining Cool Whip. Decorate with fresh lime slices and maraschino cherries, if desired. Refrigerate at least two hours before serving.

If making this dessert in a 9×13″ baking dish: spoon ALL of the Angel Food Cake mixture into the baking dish.

Top with both cans of Key Lime Pie filling.

Spoon Cool Whip into the center of the dish. Garnish with fresh lime slices and maraschino cherries, or raspberries, if desired. Refrigerate at least two hours before serving.
