
Peppered New York Strip Steaks

Peppered New York Strip Steaks are a great way to enjoy grilled steaks. This recipe uses 8 different herbs and spices as a dry rub that’s put on the steaks before grilling. The steaks grill up wonderfully well and pair nicely with almost any side dish. This beef entree is also a very healthy, gluten free option for those trying to stay away from gluten.

My husband grilled up these steaks last June! And, I’m only now getting around to posting about it. I stocked my freezer in early 2024 (after the Christmas holidays) with a ton of beef, chicken and kielbasa. I started combing through recipes using those items and came across this tasty recipe for “rib eyes.” Since I had so many New York Strip steaks in my freezer and no rib eyes, my version used New York Strip Steaks instead.
It’s really an easy, peasy recipe. In about 5 minutes, these steaks are ready for the grill. (But you can also allow the steaks to refrigerate an hour or so before grilling so they absorb more of the flavor, if desired) I happen to keep all of the spices on hand, so it was a no-brainer to pull off this recipe. I served it with Skinny Roasted Vine-Ripe Tomatoes and Garlic Italian Sweet Potato Fries.
If you’re tired of grilling steaks the same old way every time, give Peppered New York Strip Steaks a try. And don’t let all the pepper scare you. It gets scattered among six steaks so it’s only a wee amount on each one. Enjoy!

Peppered New York Strip Steaks is a great entree for company.

This easy, peasy recipe can be grill-ready in about 5 minutes!

It uses a delicious “rub” that features 8 different herbs and spices.
Here’s what I did.

I used these ingredients.

Place garlic powder, lemon pepper, cayenne pepper, black pepper, paprika, oregano, thyme and sea salt in a small bowl.

Stir ingredients to combine.

Brush steaks lightly with olive oil.

Sprinkle dry rub on both sides of each steak.

Try to get good coverage and then press the dry rub into the steaks so it adheres.

Now the steaks are ready for the grill. If desired, cover and refrigerate for one hour.

Grill steaks over medium heat, turning once during cooking time.

Turn steaks over and cook to desired doneness: rare, medium rare, medium, medium well. Remove from heat and serve. Mine cooked in about 15 minutes total time.

Transfer steaks to a serving platter to serve.

I served Peppered New York Strip Steaks with Garlic Italian Sweet Potato Fries and Skinny Roasted Vine-Ripe Tomatoes.

This simple recipe is healthy and gluten free.

PEPPERED NEW YORK STRIP STEAKS

Peppered New York Strip Steaks
Equipment
- 1 gas grill or electric or charcoal grill
- 1 large platter
- 1 small bowl
- measuring spoons
Ingredients
- 6 New York Strip Steaks
- 1 1/2 tbsp. extra virgin olive oil
- 1 tbsp. garlic powder
- 1 tbsp. paprika
- 2 tsp. dried thyme
- 2 tsp. dried oregano
- 1 1/2 tsp. ground black pepper
- 1 tsp. sea salt
- 1 tsp. lemon pepper seasoning
- 1 tsp. cayenne pepper
Instructions
- Brush steaks lightly with olive oil.
- In a small bowl, combine all the seasonings and mix thoroughly.
- Sprinkle seasonings over both sides of each steak and gently press the seasonings into each steak.
- Cover and refrigerate steaks for one hour (if desired, but it does provide better flavor).
- Grill steaks over medium heat turning once during cooking time.
- Cook steaks until desired doneness: rare, medium rare, medium, medium well or well-done.
- (Approximately 15 minutes total time).

We really enjoyed the steaks with Skinny Roasted Vine-Ripe Tomatoes and Garlic Italian Sweet Potato Fries.
