Dutch Apple Pie
This Dutch Apple Pie recipe is made quite a bit differently from traditional Apple Pie–but that doesn’t mean it’s not absolutely delicious in its own way! The crust is not the typical pie crust recipe. Instead this pie uses an oatmeal and brown sugar crust. Instead of using cinnamon in the pie filling, this one is flavored with vanilla extract. You actually make your own apple pie filling on the stove top. All in all, the flavor was outstanding–just different.

One of my daughters-in-law loves my homemade pies–especially fruit pies. Though she prefers my homemade pie crust, I decided to try out this recipe because it’s really so much easier than making pie crust from scratch. I brought this pie and a Peachy Berry Tossed Salad for our Easter dinner celebration at their home the last Sunday of March. It was very well received. My daughter-in-law had Honey-Baked Ham, my Cheesy Red Potatoes recipe along with my Fried Green Beans and Homemade Rolls.
Yes, we drooled over everything and quite enjoyed everything about that meal. But for those of you who have a sweet tooth (like us), the Dutch Apple Pie was particularly good. If you’re looking for an easy pie recipe without the typical homemade crust, this one is easy and mouthwatering.
Dutch Apple Pie is a different twist on traditional American Apple Pie recipes.
This recipe uses a brown sugar and oatmeal crust and topping, rather than traditional pie crust.
You actually make up a homemade apple pie filling too. It’s a lot simpler than you’d think.
Every bite is so mouthwatering, you’re surely going to want seconds!
Here’s what I Idid.
I used these ingredients for the pie crust.
Melt butter in a mixing bowl.
Add brown sugar, oatmeal and unbleached all-purpose flour. (Bleached flour toughens baked goods).
Stir ingredients to combine.
Measure out one cup for topping.
Press remaining mixture into an ungreased 9-inch pie plate.
I used these ingredients for the filling.
Spoon granulated sugar and cornstarch into a medium-sized saucepan.
Stir well to combine.
Add water and bring mixture to a boil over medium heat.
Cook and stir for one minute, until mixture thickens. Remove from heat.
Add apples and vanilla extract.
Stir until well combined.
Spoon apple mixture into pie plate.
Top with remaining cup of reserved crumbs.
Bake at 350 degrees for 40-45 minutes until pie topping is golden brown and apples are tender.
Eat and enjoy!
Serve warm with ice cream, if desired.
Dutch Apple Pie is a delectable and easy way to enjoy Apple Pie.
This Apple Pie recipe really hits the spot, especially if you enjoy fruit pies, like my daughter-in-law!
