I made a ton of chocolate pies during the month of July. I put them all into my freezer so I could pull them out and give them away to different friends and neighbors who were mowing our lawn or running errands for us during that time. I bought all kinds of candies and had a lot of fun making these amazing pies.
Those chocolate pies included Reese’s Peanut Butter, Butterfinger, Snickers, Turtle, Twix, Twix Cookies ‘n Creme, Whopper, Kit Kat, M&M, Milky Way, Oreo, Heath Toffee and so many others. Without exception, every pie turned out spectacularly. For those of you who are chocolate lover’s anyway, adding a dose of peppermint increases the flavor exponentially.
York Peppermint Pattie Chocolate Pie is a super duper recipe that your family is sure to love. If you enjoy the candies, you’ll love the pie. 🙂

I loved how this pie turned out. Lots of chocolate and peppermint. Yum.
If you enjoy chocolate desserts, this is a “must-make” recipe.
Here’s what I did.
I used these ingredients.
Pour dry, instant chocolate pudding into a mixing bowl. Add half-and-half.
Whisk ingredients two minutes until thick.
Add Cool Whip or other non-dairy whipped topping.
Stir ingredients well to combine.
Coarsely chop York Peppermint Patties, or cut in eighths. Reserve 1/4 cup for topping.
Add chopped Peppermint Patties to chocolate mixture.
Stir ingredients to combine.
Remove cover from chocolate crumb crust.
Spoon chocolate mixture into chocolate crumb crust.
Slice four York Peppermint Patties in half. Line the edge of the pie with the patties. Sprinkle remaining 1/4 cup chopped peppermint patties on top of the pie. Freeze pie 6 hours before serving.

This was yummy, but I do have some concerns about amounts. I used a “regular” size pudding which was about 3.5 ounces. It seemed to be plenty. Ingredients include a 17.3 oz. bag of York Peppermint Patties. But in the instructions, you are instructed to chop 1 1/4 cup patties, reserving 1/4 cup for the topping. After I cut 4 whole patties in half as instructed, I started chopping patties in 1/8th. I stopped when I got to 1 and 1/4 cups and left the rest of the patties to use for something else. At the bottom of the recipe, it does note that you won’t use the whole package. In step 7, I found out that the recipe made a lot more than would fit into a 9 inch pie crust. (Extra made a nice bonus dessert!) The pie is currently in the freezer, I’m sure we’ll love it since we loved the extra tonight. I gave 4 stars because of how directions were written.

Hi Carolyn. Yes, it fills a 9-inch pie to the point where you have to mound it up on the top! Rather than just flat across the top. It seems like every time I go to the grocery store the amount of ounces on the pudding packages changes!!! I’ve seen 3.1 to 3.5 ounces. I used a 17.3-ounce bag of Peppermint Patties because that was the only way I could purchase them. But I only used 1 1/4 cups total of chopped Peppermint Patties. One cup for the pie and 1/4 cup for the topping. So glad you enjoyed the recipe.

Is it possible to make the York Dark Chocolate Peppermint Pie WITHOUT Kool Whip
(I detest the taste of the stuff)
Have all the ingredients save for the noxious Kool Whip
Thank you for any assistance

Hey Rosalee. There is a product called Tru Whip that is actually made with real cream. You can also try it by whipping real cream and see if that turns out. You would need to whip it until it is really thick. Not sure if the consistency would hold up but it’s worth a try. 🙂

Oh thank so much Teresa!!!!! 🙂
Going to pick up some Tru Whip today to use
I am making this recipe for the company on Wed (dinner)
One additional question
What happens if I don’t use the Peppermint Patties?
I think the pie alone sounds delicious

Rosalee, I’ve made this with almost any kind of candy. Butterfingers, Baby Ruth Bars, M&Ms, Oreos, Snickers, etc. Anything will work.

Revision regarding peppermint patty pie recipe. I didn’t freeze the pie and that probably created the problem. Reminder to read the recipe completely and don’t assume !!!!!!!

Hi Sue. Yes, if you don’t freeze the pie the recipe tends to get too soupy. Then just pull it out about 10-15 minutes before serving to slice it.

I was pleased with the looks of the recipe, ease of preparation, and the flavor. Made a day ahead and had a soupy, wet, dripping product when I went to serve it. Might be just fine if served very soon after making.

Hi, Sue. Yes, see my other comments. I tried the chocolate pies by just refrigerating them too (since my original recipe called for that). I didn’t like the way it turned out, so I started freezing the pies after that. It made all the difference. I hope you put the pie in the freezer afterwards. It would have been fine had you done so.
