Candied Sweet Potatoes
Gluten Free Living – 2013
This Candied Sweet Potatoes recipe is one my mom made for us every Thanksgiving and Christmas dinner. Anytime Mom prepared turkey or ham, Candied Sweet Potatoes were on the menu because they were one of my dad’s favorite recipes. This simple three-ingredient recipe is quick, easy, and so delicious. If you need an easy no-fuss recipe for the holidays or any other time of year, Candied Sweet Potatoes fits the bill.

Candied Sweet Potatoes really don’t have to have exact measurements. I baked about eight or nine large sweet potatoes because I was trying to get rid of an overabundance of them. I used a stick of butter and a sprinkling of brown sugar. After baking the potatoes partially, you cut them off into chunks and toss them in a skillet with the butter and brown sugar to glaze. That’s it. You can’t get much easier then that.
If you’re interested in a quick and easy side dish for ham, turkey, Roast Chicken or pork, this tasty recipe is a great accompaniment. Our family has always enjoyed this sweet potato dish and we think you will too.
When I posted this recipe in December 2013, it was very cold outside where I was taking pictures. The hot food caused steam to rise and the combination caused somewhat cloudy pictures. I recently remade this recipe (November 2016) twice. Once with Charcoal-Grilled Sugared Ham and the other time with Roast Chicken. The first time I cut the potatoes into chunks, the second time I cut them into slices. This is still a perfect side dish for the holidays. Hope you give it a try.
Candied Sweet Potatoes is a wonderful holiday side dish.
Candied Sweet Potatoes work really well with Roast Chicken.
It’s also delicious served with Charcoal-Grilled Sugared Ham.
Here’s what I did.
I used these ingredients.
Bake sweet potatoes partially – about an hour to an hour and fifteen minutes at 350. The sweet potatoes need to be just barely tender, and not soft and fully cooked. Remove from oven and cut down potatoes in two-inch chunks or 1/2″ slices.
Melt butter in a large skillet over low to medium heat. Add chunked or sliced sweet potatoes. Sprinkle brown sugar over top. Stir to combine.
Cover with lid and saute potatoes about 15-20 minutes to heat through. Spoon glaze over top of potatoes several times while cooking.
Spoon potatoes into a serving dish. Drizzle brown sugar glaze over top of sweet potatoes to serve.
Serve Candied Sweet Potatoes with your favorite entree and side dishes.
Candied Sweet Potatoes are great with any kind of main dish. These sweet potatoes also go well with pork chops, baked chicken and even fish.
Here’s the recipe.
