Chocolate Pecan Pie Bars

Teresa Ambra

Chocolate Pecan Pie Bars are rich, decadent, divine! I have been making these scrumptious bars for a long time. I made them frequently when my kids were growing up. Each spectacular bar is filled with lots of chocolate chips and pecans in an amazing pecan pie-type filling.

I recently made these bars for a Ladies’ Retreat at our church and one lady who never eats nuts told me they were her favorite–even over the Red Velvet Cookie Dough Cheesecake Brownies which she (and many others) thought were awesome.

Chocolate Pecan Pie Bars are a real treat for your family. If you like pecan pie and chocolate you will love these tasty treats–and so will everyone else! They are great for holiday baking. I’ve made them several times for our yearly Christmas Cookie Extravaganza, and everyone usually raves over them.

I got the recipe from a dear friend, Mimi Pownall, back in the early 1980s when I typed in all her recipes for her electronically back when computers first became reasonable in price for regular folks (circa 1984). I’ve  never had one of Mimi’s recipes fail me.

I have changed the recipe up a little bit. Instead of using a pastry blender to cut the butter into the flour for the crust, I melt the butter and stir it into the crumb mixture. The melted butter adheres to the crumbs better and the bar won’t come out of the pan quite so crumbly. It’s a terrific recipe with an amazing chocolate crust and a pecan pie-chocolate chip layer to die for.

So if you’re looking for a special recipe to wow your guests, look no further than the recipe for Chocolate Pecan Pie Bars. You won’t be disappointed and neither will your company. Chances are, you won’t even have a crumb left over after serving these terrific bars!

When I made Chocolate Pecan Pie Bars originally in March of 2013, my pictures were dark and unclear. I recently remade this recipe in order to give a batch to friends (May 2017) and took a few new pictures. These luscious chocolaty bars were a big hit. I recommend them for your dessert menu anytime you want a sweet treat.

.

Bake at 350 for about 40-45 minutes or until top is set. The original recipe called for this step to take 20 minutes. I have never had it cook in under 40 minutes! Cool bars completely before cutting. Cut the bars into 24 pieces. Miniature pecan pies with chocolate!

Another option is to melt the 1 cup butter and stir into crumb mixture. Press onto bottom of sprayed 9×13” baking dish.[br][br]I actually used a 10×15″ jelly roll pan.[br][br]I have had this take much, much longer to bake in order to set.
