Garlic Parmesan Asparagus
Gluten Free Living – 2024
Garlic Parmesan Asparagus is a fantastic 4-ingredient recipe for the grill! If you’re grilling steaks, ribs, fish or chicken, this is a marvelous side dish to add at the same time! I used very small, almost “baby”, asparagus so it wouldn’t be very tough. I also used garlic, butter and grated parmesan cheese. You can add salt and pepper if you wish for more flavor. But the nice thing about this recipe is my husband tended the grill, so I had very little to do.

Instead of making this recipe on the stove top, I adapted it for the grill and it turned out wonderfully well. I know many gals don’t mind tending the grill. I’ve just never been one of them. My husband does a much better job of cooking everything so whenever we grill steaks or chicken (or anything else), he gets grill duty.
He also usually grills fresh veggies and fruit at the same time. We grill fresh pineapple, peaches, nectarines and plums all the time. We also grill fresh veggies like asparagus, broccoli, cauliflower, carrots, cabbage, squash of varying kinds, eggplant and sometimes green beans. We really enjoy grilled foods.
The day we grilled the asparagus, I also grilled and made a whole lot of other side dishes. We grilled Steaks with Peppery Onions, Steaks with Savory Steak Rub, Kielbasa, Grilled Herbed Broccoli, and peaches, along with the Garlic Parmesan Asparagus. We also made Rutabaga Fries, and Garlic Mashed Turnips with bacon! Yum. Everything was delicious, especially the asparagus.
I don’t care for tough, stringy asparagus. So when you’re shopping, try to get new asparagus that’s on the thin side. Cut off about two to three inches of the stalk and what remains is quite delicious. Mix all the basting ingredients and baste over top of the asparagus while grilling. It’s really as simple as that. Unless you’re having company, you probably won’t need more than one bundle of asparagus, so you may want to cut down on the basting ingredients if that’s the case. Regardless, Garlic Parmesan Asparagus is a delightful recipe your family will enjoy during this summer grilling season. Enjoy.

Here’s what I did.
I used these ingredients plus a little water. Salt and pepper is optional.
Wash asparagus in a colander. Try to purchase asparagus that has smaller, thinner stalks so it won’t be tough and stringy.
Trim off two or three inches of the stalk. Finely mince the garlic.
Melt butter in small measuring cup.
Add garlic, water, parmesan cheese and salt and pepper, if desired. I ended up diluting the mixture by adding water so it wasn’t quite so thick.
Place asparagus over medium heat about 5-10 minutes depending on the heat.
Baste asparagus with garlic sauce every few minutes while grilling. Turn asparagus after 3 minutes; continue basting that side with butter-garlic sauce too.
Remove to a platter and sprinkle with more Parmesan cheese.
I served the Garlic Parmesan Asparagus with Steaks with Peppery Onions and Grilled Herbed Broccoli.
This is a really easy side dish to prepare on the grill.
You can prepare a whole meal on the grill if you desire. Fresh fruit and veggies do wonderfully cooked on the grill.
Here’s the recipe.
