Italian Seven Grain Bread
Italian Seven Grain Bread is lovely. I’m always on the lookout for new homemade bread recipes–even when I have to create one myself. I love a good loaf of freshly baked bread. Making homemade bread in the breadmaker makes everything so quick and easy too.

I had a bag of seven grain cereal in my freezer that I had used on a loaf of bread before. I decided it was time to use up some more of it, but this time I wanted to add an Italian flavor to it, similar to my Rapid Rise Italian Herb Bread. So I decided to combine the two and the result was wonderful.
Last month I made a meal on the spur of the moment for one of our friends who was down with a bad back. I had to make the meal with ingredients I currently had on hand so that I wouldn’t have to go to the store. I ended up making a loaf of this tasty dinner bread with a chicken batch of Chicken or Tuna Tempter, a fresh green salad with homemade Healthy Apple Cider Salad Dressing, some Cracked Sugar Cookies for dessert, and some Chocolate Banana Bread Streusel Muffins for breakfast the following day.
I can always eat a slice of homemade bread — for breakfast, with soup or salad, or with any kind of dinner entree. I’ll take a slice of bread many times in place of dessert. 🙂 If you’re looking for a tasty bread to serve for your family dinners, give this lovely Italian Seven Grain Bread a try. You will find it a very warm and satisfying comfort food, indeed. Who knows? You may end up enjoying a piece of this tasty bread in place of dessert, too!

Italian Seven Grain Bread is a tasty dinner bread you’re sure to love.

The nice thing about this bread is you can make it in the breadmaker!

This recipe makes a 2-lb. loaf.
Here’s what I did.

I used these ingredients.

Place hot water in bread canister. Add powdered milk, oil (or shortening), sugar (or honey), salt, wheat flour and bread flour.

Add seven grain cereal, basil, marjoram, thyme and parsley.

Add bread machine yeast and vital wheat gluten. Place on whole wheat setting.

Allow bread to rest in canister 15 minutes before removing from oven. Butter top and sides with butter to prevent crusts from hardening.

Allow bread to cool an additional 15 minutes before slicing down.

I use an electric knife to carve down the bread because it makes really clean cuts in the bread.

This lovely homemade bread combines seven grain cereal with several herbs for a really superb taste.
Here’s the recipe.

- 2 tbsp. sugar or honey

- 2 1/2 cups bread flour

- 1 1/2 tsp. dried basil

- Measure ingredients into bread canister in order listed.
- Set for whole wheat setting.
- Mine takes close to 4 hours.
- Allow bread to cool about 15 minutes before removing from bread machine.
- Butter top and sides so bread crusts don’t become hard or tough.
- Allow bread to continue cooling on bread board another 15 minutes before slicing.
NOTE: all-purpose flour does not contain the necessary gluten to bond the ingredients together as well as bread flour. The bread may turn out crumbly. For best results use bread flour.
NOTE: I recommend using Fleischmann's yeast or bread machine yeast in any yeast bread recipe. Red Star yeast just doesn't work as well.
