Grilled Herbed Broccoli
Gluten Free Living – 2024
Grilled Herbed Broccoli is a wonderful side dish to prepare when you have steaks, chops, fish or chicken on the grill. The basting sauce can be made in less than five minutes and it only takes about 6 minutes to grill the broccoli and it’s ready to go. Besides lemon juice and onion, this recipe includes summer savory, thyme and marjoram. (And it is worth going to the store and purchasing them). 🙂

I keep just about every spice or seasoning known to man in my pantry. I have two large racks that go over each of the two doors that open it, so I have plenty of space to fill up. Some spices/seasonings I use up quickly and purchase multiple times a year. Others I’ve had for years and they still have their potency. I always keep marjoram and thyme on hand (and use them frequently). I purchased Summer Savory one day on a whim so I was glad to have it for this recipe.
I converted a regular stove top recipe for broccoli and make it on the grill instead. This delicious Grilled Herbed Broccoli is the result. While the recipe calls for butter and seasonings, you can use olive oil or avocado oil if you desire to keep the recipe vegan instead. It is naturally gluten free, and for those of you trying to eat healthier, this is an excellent way to do it.
Rather than just grilling the typical corn-on-the-cob when you have backyard barbecues, consider grilling up broccoli, asparagus, carrots, cabbage, cauliflower, eggplant or zucchini. We’ve tried soooo many vegetables and fruits and they all come out so mouthwatering.
Grilled Herbed Broccoli is so simple and easy to prepare that you can make up a batch any time you fire up the grill. The seasoning is delicious and not overwhelming or overpowering. It has a great combination of flavor and is a terrific side dish when you’re trying to come up with healthy meals for your family. Enjoy.
Grilled Herbed Broccoli is so easy to whip up on the grill. It was wonderful served with Steaks with Peppery Onions Garlic Mashed Turnips and Garlic Parmesan Asparagus.
We grilled the broccoli about 3 minutes per side, basting every minute or so with the butter/seasoning sauce.
I served Grilled Herbed Broccoli with Garlic Parmesan Asparagus (also made on the grill) and Steaks with Savory Steak Rub (made on the grill).
Here’s what I did.
I used these ingredients. This recipe is worth purchasing the Summer Savory, thyme and marjoram for your pantry.
Cut the broccoli into florets. Chop off as much of the stalk as possible and discard.
Finely mince the onion.
Melt butter in microwave in a glass measuring cup.
Add lemon juice and finely minced onion.
Add salt, summer savory, marjoram and thyme. Stir to combine.
Place broccoli on grill over medium heat. We place wire cooling racks on the grill so the smaller pieces don’t have a tendency to fall into the fire.
Baste broccoli with herb-butter mixture. Baste at least once every minute for 3 minutes. Turn broccoli over and baste every minute for 3 minutes. The broccoli should test done, but if it’s too hard and not tender enough, cook another minute or two, basting as the broccoli cooks.
Remove to a platter. If you have any of the basting sauce left over, baste the broccoli with the remaining sauce. Serve.
Grilled Herbed Broccoli was also especially good with Grilled Peaches, Steaks with Peppery Onions, Garlic Parmesan Asparagus and Garlic Mashed Turnips (with bacon!).
This side dish reheats well too.
We enjoy grilling a lot. Here in Texas we can grill out almost year round. It’s so easy to prepare a whole meal on the grill!
Here’s the recipe.
