Magic Pear Cobbler

Oh my goodness, Magic Pear Cobbler is absolutely scrumptious! This amazing cobbler has a layer of pears, a layer of batter and a cinnamon-sugar layer topped with boiling water. Once it bakes up, it magically turns into one of the best cobbler recipes imaginable! Every bite is just what you want a cobbler to taste like! And, if you enjoy pears, this fruit cobbler is doubly delicious!

Back last June we had a new family move into our subdivision. We met their kids and grandkids first as they were trying to move aging parents into their new home as easily as possible. I asked if I could bring a meal to them and they were delighted. They told me that their granddaughters loved pears. So I whipped up a Sunday Pork Loin Roast (which had potatoes and carrots with it), Corn Pudding, Homemade Bread and this Magic Pear Cobbler. They were over the moon with this lovely dessert.

The nice thing about this dessert is it’s so easy to make. As I stated earlier, the cobbler is layered, so you work on one layer at a time, and then bake it. It turns out marvelously wonderful and if you enjoy pear-flavored dessert, this is just the ticket!

Magic Pear Cobbler is a fantastic dessert. It’s especially good with ice cream!

Pears can be purchased almost all-year-round nowadays, so this dessert should always be on the menu. 🙂

If you enjoy pears in dessert, this one is fantastic!

Here’s what I did.

I used these ingredients.

Grease the bottom of a 9×9″ glass baking dish. Arrange pears over the bottom of the dish; set aside.

Place softened butter, granulated sugar and vanilla extract in a mixing bowl.

Mix ingredients with an electric mixer until smooth.

Add half-and-half, unbleached flour, baking powder and salt.

Beat ingredients with an electric mixer again.

Spread batter over top of the pears in baking dish.

In a small bowl, combine granulated sugar, cinnamon and nutmeg.

Add cornstarch.

Stir ingredients well to combine.

Spoon the cinnamon sugar mixture over top of the batter in the baking dish.

Pour boiling water evenly over top.

Now the dessert is ready for the oven.

Bake at 375 degrees for 40-45 minutes.

Cool slightly; serve with ice cream if desired.

I made one of these desserts for our new neighbors and another one for us!

We cleaned it out pretty quickly.

MAGIC PEAR COBBLER

(My own concoction)

Magic Pear Cobbler

You'll be captivated by the magical way this easy layered dessert comes together while baking. Magic Pear Cobbler is a delightful dessert featuring pears and cinnamon and pairs marvelously with ice cream. Excellent choice for potlucks, backyard barbecues or regular family dinners. Every bite will have you swooning!

9×9" square baking dish
sharp paring knife
medium mixing bowl
electric mixer
wooden spoon
measuring cups
measuring spoons
small bowl
spoon or fork

3 cups pears (peeled, sliced (about 2 large pears))
1/2 cup salted butter (softened, (1 stick))
3/4 cup granulated sugar
1 tsp. pure vanilla extract
1/2 cup half-and-half
1 cup unbleached all-purpose flour ((bleached flour toughens baked goods))
1/8 tsp. sea salt
1 tsp. baking powder
1/3 cup granulated sugar
1/2 tsp. ground cinnamon
1/8 tsp. ground nutmeg
1 tbsp. cornstarch
1/4 cup boiling water

Preheat oven to 375°.
Peel and slice pears.
Set aside.
Spray a 9×9” glass baking dish with cooking spray.
Arrange pears in the bottom of prepared baking dish.
Cream 3/4 cup granulated sugar, butter and vanilla in a mixing bowl with an electric mixer until smooth.
Add half-and-half, flour, salt and baking powder and continue mixing with mixer until creamy.
Spread batter evenly over the pears in baking dish.
In a small bowl, combine 1/3 cup granulated sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg and cornstarch.
Sprinkle the cinnamon-sugar mixture evenly over the batter.
Pour the boiling water over top.
Make sure all of the sugar is covered with water and no dry spots remain.
Bake at 375° for 40-45 minutes.
Cool slightly before serving.

NOTE: Canned pears can be substituted. Pat dry before putting in prepared baking dish.

NOTE: Great served warm with ice cream or whipped cream.
