Fig Pie Crust Cinnamon Rolls

I’ll be the first to admit I LOVE Pie Crust Cinnamon Rolls! Any flavor, any time, any where! These Fig Pie Crust Cinnamon Rolls turned out even better than I believed they would! This super-easy 5-ingredient recipe is outstanding. I used refrigerated pie crust to start with. I added softened butter, dabs of Fig preserves over top. Then I sprinkled the whole with a cinnamon-sugar mixture and rolled up the pie crust, jelly-roll style. Spectacular!

I made these for our Sunday morning Hostess Committee at church in early spring. Everyone thought they were eating apple instead of fig! I didn’t tell them what they were eating until they had already started eating. Everyone LOVED the Pie Crust Cinnamon Rolls! And everyone enjoyed my “fig” version, even though I wasn’t sure they would. 🙂

I’ve made so many versions of these cinnamon rolls over the years, including peach, apricot, raspberry, cherry, blueberry, Nutella, apple, apple butter, strawberry, Lemon Curd, Peach-Mango, Grape and pumpkin. All of them are so, so good. But I have to admit I really enjoyed the fig. But then, I love fig preserves on homemade rolls or bread. Fig “anything” suits me just fine. 🙂

Fig Pie Crust Cinnamon Rolls are terrific for a breakfast or brunch buffet. But we enjoy these as snacks throughout the day, or at tailgating parties, potlucks, with morning coffee or any other time we want a sweet treat. I hope you enjoy them too.

Fig Preserves are delicious used in Pie Crust Cinnamon Rolls!

Here’s what I did.

I used these ingredients.

Unroll the pie crusts.

Spread each one with about two tablespoons of softened butter.

Place one-half to one-teaspoon dabs of fig preserves over top of the dough. Space each one about an inch from another dab of jelly. Leave a one-inch border around the circumference of the dough.

Combine cinnamon and granulated sugar in a small bowl.

Keep stirring until very well combined.

Sprinkle about 1 1/2 to 2 tablespoonfuls of cinnamon-sugar mixture over top of each of the pie crusts.

Roll up the pie crust, gently and carefully so the crust doesn’t tear while rolling. Crimp the ends down as you go.

Here, one of the pie crusts is rolled up.

Place rolled pie crusts on top of a parchment paper-lined cookie sheet pan. Crimp the edges with a fork. Press the tines of the fork against the crust on the bottom too, to deter syrup from leaking out of the cinnamon rolls while baking.

Bake pie crusts at 350 degrees for 25-30 minutes, until crust is baked. Some of the preserves will leak out no matter how careful you are, but try to crimp as well as possible anyway.

Allow the Fig Pie Crust Cinnamon Rolls to cool completely before cutting in 1 1/2-to-2-inch slices.

Serve!

Fig Pie Crust Cinnamon Rolls are heavenly. I had several people tell me they thought they were eating apple-flavored cinnamon rolls!

Equipment

• 1 18×26" cookie sheet pan
• parchment paper
• table knife
• 1 small bowl
• 2 spoons
• measuring cups

Ingredients

• 8 oz. fig preserves (you may need less)
• 4 refrigerated pie crusts
• 1/2 cup granulated sugar
• 1 tbsp. ground cinnamon
• 8 tbsp. salted butter softened

Instructions

 

• Preheat oven to 350°.
• Combine sugar and cinnamon in a small bowl; set aside.
• Roll out pie crusts.
• Spread each pie crust with about 2 tbsp. softened butter.
• Place ½ to 1 teaspoon dabs of Fig Preserves evenly over top of each crust.
• Leave a one to two-inch border around the outside circle of the pie crust and don’t place any preserves in that area.
• Space each dab of preserves about an inch apart.
• Sprinkle 1 ½ tablespoons of the cinnamon-sugar mixture over each pie crust.
• (You will not use all of the cinnamon-sugar mixture).
• Roll up pie crust, gently but tightly crimping the edges as you roll.
• Place on cookie sheet pan leaving about two to three inches between each Cinnamon Roll so rolls can expand while baking.
• (Don’t crowd the cinnamon rolls. Use two baking sheets, if necessary).
• Use a fork to press down the ends about 1/8-inch to seal cinnamon rolls.
• Bake at 350° for approximately 25-30 minutes or until crust is baked.
• Allow Cinnamon Rolls to cool completely before removing to a bread board to cut in slices.
• Cut down in one to one-and-a-half inch slices. 

Notes

NOTE: Avoid the temptation of adding more cinnamon-sugar mixture or more jelly. It will end up oozing out of the of the cinnamon rolls while baking and cause a mess!

 

NOTE: Try not to overbake the Cinnamon Rolls or they end up getting too flaky. Start checking after 20 minutes.

 

NOTE: I found these rolls worked better with Pillsbury refrigerated pie crusts, rather than cheaper store brands.
