Peach Squares
Okay, I have a doozy of a recipe for you today–Peach Squares. The title isn’t very fancy, but this is one of the moistest, most delectable desserts you’ll ever eat. They actually taste better the second day after the flavors have mingled for awhile. In addition to the peaches, these use Greek yogurt or sour cream to keep them moist. Walnuts add crunch and cinnamon adds zest for one snappy bar-type cookie that’s oh, so satisfying.

I’ve been going back through a lot of my apple recipes to see how I can use up my abundance of peaches. Without exception, almost any recipe where I’ve used apples, peaches can be substituted without a hitch. In fact, if you love peaches as much as I do (my favorite fruit), then you will probably like the peach versions better!
Apple Squares have always been one of our favorite recipes over the years. I found the recipe on the Internet back in the very early 90s. I was hunting for a recipe to use up apples we had picked at a nearby orchard. Our kids always loved this recipe. Peach Squares are no different–they are just as mouthwatering. This recipe does have a few different steps to it, but it’s not overly involved or difficult to make. Plus, you get the luscious taste of fresh peaches in every bite. While you can easily add an icing on top, I’ve always served these with powdered sugar sprinkled over them.
If you’re looking for a scrumptious brownie-type cookie that uses peaches, then Peach Squares is the dessert for you! Be prepared to make more than one batch! This delightful cookie will go like hot cakes!
I initially published this recipe in September 2015. I was never really happy with the pictures so I remade the recipe in June 2020. My sister-in-law was here at the time and she drooled and drooled over these jewels. Yes, these goodies are drool-worthy. Give them a try and you’ll see what all the fuss is about! 🙂
Peach Squares just melt in your mouth!
Peach Squares are great treats for tailgating parties in early fall when peaches are still in season.
Prepare yourself for a culinary delight! 🙂
These turn out perfect every time!
Here’s what I did.
I used these ingredients.
Melt butter.
Add UNBLEACHED all-purpose flour. Bleached flour toughens baked goods. Add brown sugar.
Stir ingredients with a fork.
Add walnuts.
Stir ingredients again to combine.
Measure 2 3/4 cups walnut mixture and press firmly in the bottom of a greased 9×13″ glass baking dish.
To remaining walnut mixture, add peaches, Icelandic or Greek yogurt, egg, baking soda, salt, cinnamon and vanilla.
Stir with a wooden spoon to combine.
Spread peach mixture over top of the crust layer.
Bake at 350 for 40-50 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in center comes out clean.
Allow bars to cool completely. Sprinkle heavily with powdered sugar before cutting. (Cutting is easier if you refrigerate the bars for a couple of hours beforehand.)
Peach Squares are actually better if they are allowed to sit 24 hours before serving, but who can wait that long??? 🙂
If you love peaches you’ll love this dessert.
Peach Squares are terrific for holidays, backyard barbecues, or grilling out with friends.
These are also great to take to potlucks or parties. Watch them disappear fast!
Here’s the recipe.
