Sun Dried Tomato Hummus
2013 – Gluten Free Living
This Sun Dried Tomato Hummus recipe is spectacular! It has all the regular ingredients you’d expect in hummus. Tahini (sesame paste), chick peas, lemon, garlic, and tamari soy sauce (a gluten free, non-GMO, low sodium soy sauce). But with this caveat: a few dashes of cayenne pepper and sun dried tomatoes with herbs. Wow, this hummus was so wonderful. I based the recipe on my Simply Delicious Homemade Hummus that I got from WholeFoodsMarket. The addition of sun-dried tomatoes was inspired by D Amy Health.

I made this luscious hummus recipe a few weeks ago when I was making snacks for our church’s Vacation Bible School team. They loved the many delicious hummus recipes I brought in. Especially because I served them with fresh veggies dippers. These also tasted really great with sun chips, crackers and pita bread dippers.
Sun Dried Tomato Hummus not only tastes fantastic, but it is healthy, low calorie, gluten free, and vegan. This is an excellent choice for after-school snacks for kids. When it ‘s served with veggies they get so many really healthy ingredients at the same time. It’s also a great finger food appetizer to take to parties and potlucks. I like bringing hummus to long meetings so everyone has something to snack on while going over tedious business matters! 🙂
This is one humdinger of a hummus recipe. Sun Dried Tomato Hummus will catch your attention and make you long for another taste. It has just enough zip with the cayenne pepper to make it special. The scrumptious taste of the tomatoes, herbs and chick peas make this incredibly heavenly on the palate.
If you’re a tomato lover like me, you’ll love the addition of the sun dried tomatoes. And, if you like just a little bit of heat, then the cayenne pepper is subtle but effective. Why don’t you give this recipe a try soon?
I initially posted this recipe in August 2013. My pictures were taken in a rush and did not adequately reflect the greatness of this recipe. I recently remade the recipe (September 2019) for our college group one Sunday night. This was the first thing to go that night even though we had a lot of food. Many of them love healthy snacks so this fit the bill.
I adjusted the recipe to make it a little creamier than the last go round. But other than that, I pretty much made it like the original batch. While we offered chips, most everyone decided to eat this with the veggie dippers I included. Seriously, Sun Dried Tomato Hummus is awesome. Plus, you can whip it up in about 5 minutes. Yay! That’s a recipe I like to make. 🙂
Sun Dried Tomato Hummus is fantastic with veggie dippers or crackers.
The delicious taste of sun dried tomatoes permeates this wonderful hummus infusing it with fabulous flavors.
Take a platter of chips, crackers or veggies along with Sun Dried Tomato Hummus to your next office party and it will soon be all gone!
Our Vacation Bible School Workers loved this zesty hummus recipe. Cayenne pepper gives it a nice kick. Sun Dried Tomato Hummus is also a healthy, nutritious snack for those trying to eat right or lose weight.
Here’s What I did.
I used these ingredients.
Measure sun dried tomatoes and place in blender or food processor.
Add tahini –sesame seed paste, tamari soy sauce, olive oil, garlic, salt, cayenne pepper and lemon juice.
Drain garbanzo beans reserving water. Mash garbanzo beans with a fork.
Add mashed garbanzo beans and about 1/2 cup reserved garbanzo bean liquid.
Blend until smooth. Add more reserved liquid or olive oil if necessary for a creamy texture.
To serve: add crackers, sun chips, pita bread dippers, or your favorite veggies and enjoy!
This dip turned out really spectacularly. I loved the taste. For a healthy, low calorie gluten free, vegan snack, put Sun Dried Tomato Hummus on your list!
Sun Dried Tomato Hummus is so easy to make, too. You can whip up a batch of this great-tasting hummus in about 5 to 10 minutes. This is a great recipe to take to parties or serve whenever you’re serving finger foods.
