Red Velvet Crinkle Cookies
Teresa’s Bake Shop – Christmas Cookie Extravaganza – 2012
I tried these amazing Red Velvet Crinkle Cookies off the back of a Duncan Hines box the other day, and boy am I glad I did. There’s luscious chocolaty flavor in a beautiful red color. These cookies are rolled in powdered sugar and bake up wonderfully. They develop lovely cracks as they bake and taste as lovely as they look!

I was baking Red Velvet Sandwich Cookies the other day when I saw this recipe on the side of the Red Velvet cake mix box. I thought to myself, “I have several extra boxes of Red Velvet cake mix so I think I’ll try out this recipe!” Yay! It’s a fabulous and easy recipe that is simply wonderful.
It has the rich chocolaty taste you enjoy in Red Velvet desserts, but without all the hassle of many Christmas cookie recipes. Plus it’s really an elegant and beautiful dessert for Christmas and Valentine’s Day.
If you’re looking for a quick and easy Christmas cookie to whip up for the holidays this is a great option. It only has six ingredients and you can have this mixed and ready to roll out in about 3-5 minutes. Another 5-10 minutes of rolling the dough into balls and you will have these cookies ready to go into the oven. You can start and be finished with this great recipe in about 30 minutes. If you’re short on time these holiday cookies are a great recipe to whip up for parties or guests.
When I originally published this recipe in December of 2012, I was really disappointed with my pictures. They were taken with a poor iPhone camera, in bad lighting, and with too many props, making the pictures look gaudy and overdone. Sometimes less is really more!
I was new to the blogging world and still in the very early stages of learning how to present food. I’m not a food photographer by trade, so it has been a struggle learning to get everything in the proper balance. I remade these cookies for our Christmas Cookie Extravaganza – 2014, in October 2014. I reshot the pictures so you could get a better idea of what these beautiful cookies look like.
One of the things I really like about Red Velvet Crinkle Cookies is that they are so easy and use only 6 ingredients. Yes, sometimes less is really more!

Red Velvet Crinkle Cookies are elegant and lovely as well as delicious.

Red Velvet Crinkle Cookies are great to take along to holiday parties or to a cookie exchange.

You can whip up a batch of these amazing Red Velvet Crinkle Cookies in no time! Our family loved these marvelous cookies.
Here’s what I did.

I used these six ingredients. That’s all!

Place red velvet cake mix in a mixing bowl. Add eggs, melted butter and lemon zest.

Combine ingredients with a wooden spoon or whisk to mix all the ingredients together.

Shape dough into balls. Place cornstarch and powdered sugar in a small bowl. Stir together to combine. Roll dough into powdered sugar. Make sure you heavily powder the cookie dough so that plenty of it remains on the cookie after baking.

Place cookies on cookie sheets that have been really well-sprayed with cooking spray. I would suggest using Bakers Joy cooking spray and well-coat the pans. That way the edges won’t chip off when you try to remove them with a spatula.

Bake about 12 minutes at 375. You can see how the cookies have cracked.

Here’s a look at these delicious jewels. Break out the egg nog and enjoy!

Your guests will love Red Velvet Crinkle Cookies. Pass these cookies around to your friends and company and they will be snapped up like hotcakes!

Red Velvet Crinkle Cookies are so easy to make since they only use 6 ingredients. If you need a quick dessert during the busy holiday season, this is it!
